Why is Lizzo so universally disrespected?

Lizzo has never really been on my radar. I know her, but I've never seen anything that's captured my interest.

What's the tea and why is she so universally disrespected? I listened to some of her music to try find out. It was a lil 2 dimensional for sure, and a bit basic. But I can respect the voice she has and the conviction.

Is it because she's stuck in 2016? Cause that's the impression I get listening to 'B*tch*. Or is there other tea? If so, may I know it? Thanks in advance :giggle:

DESTROY UR DISEASE

to put it short: her backup dancers filed a lawsuit against her accusing her of harrasement and a few other things

The fact she was body-shaming backup dancers (as well as sexually harassing them I think) probably is why most people don't respect her. It kinda confirmed my theory that she was not a nice person but I've never met her so I can't be sure.

I thought the flute and twerking thing was a cool bit, but idk I'm not a fan of her music at all.

other people have definitely send this, but there was a huge lawsuit with her and her backup dancers... she was sexually harassing and bodyshaming them

she's also been accused of plagiarism, defended chris brown, and used an ableist slur in a song (though she did replace it)

The main reason is that she’s fat.

Then, there’s obviously all the scandals others members have mentioned above, but not so many people know about that stuff. What makes the GP treat her like that is essentially her physical appearance. Nothing more, nothing less.

My personal reason: I didn't know much about Lizzo, but I thought she was cool (years ago) because she's this big lady and she seemed like a cool role-model person for people. The disco-y song she did during COVID (i literally only saw it once, don't clock me if i remember wrong lmao) was really cute and positive.

So when the accusations started coming out, it was like when Ellen was exposed for being a turd :icant:

She still got that active, unresolved lawsuits filed by former employees (including backup dancers and a wardrobe designer) that allege she created an abusive and hostile work environment. The claims are currently tied up in ongoing legal proceedings. This includes sexual harassment, and ironically, weight shaming.

Likely people will continue be hostile to her until this is resolved. Especially if the result is in her favor.

Controversies aside I just see her as a novelty act tbh

I was shocked when about damn time went #1. It’s catchy and a good song but as others said she gives mid to late 2010s
