Vocalists have vocal control out their ass (Beyoncé is actually the least vocalist of the 4 she listed and Whitney is probably the most but Mariah Carey is still the best vocalist alive currently) Gaga for example is a vocalist because of her vocal agility but Beyoncé beats her only in breath control which becomes obvious when they tour. But Gaga and Bey not better than say Xtina and Whitney who also have 3 octaves but better control and tone, Mariah has 4 octaves thanks to her mom being an opera singer and training her for example. She even invented an entirely new way of singing thanks to her mom’s training (whistle tone). Ariana Grande is arguably on her way to be second only to Mariah after her Wicked training.

i just find it odd how your Mount Rushmore is all vocalists but you’ve never trained to be a vocalist. She’s clearly more like Britney Spears and Janet Jackson id say, they have good singing ability when they try but they don’t push their voices and when they do they shout instead of belting. Which is what she’s doing here and does now.

You can tell the difference between a belt which is guttural and controlled from your stomach, and does less damage to your voice, and a shout which uses your throat and damages your voice. That’s why Adele needed surgery for instance, she sang from her throat instead of her stomach — which is what she’s does now.

Thats why when you train your voice, teachers will do things like grab your stomach to make you sing better and louder, because real singing comes from your stomach unless you’re doing falsetto which comes from your head. Hence the terms chest voice and head voice. Just form Zara’s tone you can tell she sings from her throat not her stomach.

That's why for example why Gaga’s voice became “deeper” because she now sings from her stomach instead of her throat like she did when she started out. A vocalist can sing from their stomach, chest and their head. Your average popstar sings just from their throat.
 

Doesn’t make you a bad singer just means you have bad technique and will damage your voice in the long run.

 

She is super great, but Idk if I'd agree with Mariah being one of the greats currently, especially considering her recent gigs   That title would have to go to Florence, Simone Simons and Tarja.. but 2bh I think Zara also has the range, but compromises it to be able to do explosive performances, which none of her idols do really do. But also it's one thing to be one kind of artist, but admire another or aspire to be another kind of artist. She's still young and she has room to grow, like eventually she might prioritise the vocals when she won't be able to dance as she's dancing now.
