Imagine if in a weeks time Gaga announced she’s dropping new music this year, in your head what do you expect out of the era? Videos, theme, performances, etc? Do you expect the era to chase the giant reception of Mayhem? Things you’d expect similar or differently?

Let’s revel in the silence by dipping a foot into the delulu pond for a second :volantis:

I'd be expecting a full disco-inspired album. Shes headed towards that direction, and I'd honestly be excited to see her revisiting the pre-Fame sound.

Her early demos are some of my favorite songs

"when she go" deserved to be finished. "blueberry kisses" is a bop. "private audition" deserved some attention, but also "J'adore les femmes riches, oui-oui J'adore les femmes riches"
Definitely not Chappell Roan

I would expect a little time to give my bank account time to settle after MAYHEM but would still be here for new music.

Truthfully though, I want her to take her time off as needed and rest. She gave us such an amazing album and era of performances we can look back on alongside all the others

I don't expect much anymore.

Mayhem was a fantastic album, and it looked like she was finally doing things right but then stopped???? We had more music videos, more singles off this incredible pop album and she just ditched the era as soon as it got here. She's fumbled a bit so now I don't look as forward to her eras, since Mayhem deserved better.

I’ve said it before in other threads but it bares repeating. Eras aren’t what they used to be back in 2011 because of streaming.

Record label funding is notoriously down to about 80% of what it was. Interscope only funded Disease. Mastercard funded Abra. TDD was funded by Netflix and Runway is funded by Disney/20th Century Studios.

Music videos no longer encourage album sales because songs/singles are available for free to stream at anytime on your phone via Spotify and other services. YouTube views no longer count toward the Hot 100 anymore in the US, radio is basically dead and radio interviews haven’t transferred to sales or streams since the mid 2010s. TikTok can dictate hits now like radio used to.

Once your album is out in the ether, you no longer need singles or videos because EVERY song is technically a single. Singles were used to encourage album sales. Because you could buy singles separately as a “sample” of an album and if you liked them then you’d buy the album. Just like how tours used to exclusively exist to make up for lost marketing money until the late 90s when they became primarily to promote record sales higher.

Gaga was on every popular YouTube channel, podcast, festival and had a big and successful tour as well as the most attended female concert in history. That’s all we’ll get nowadays because it‘a not just Gaga it affects it’s everyone.

Only newer acts that dont have a tried and tested following that eat up their content release multiple singles and even then it works backwards now — now most people release single after single and THEN release an album that’s mostly like 6-8 singles and 2 unreleased songs.

On the topic of where she’ll go, id like to think Requiem was sort of where she is creatively. I expect a very synth driven album with live drums and bass.

I also feel like she’ll experiment with vocoders and auto tune in unique ways and use her voice as a storytelling device and instrument. She’s established she’s an amazing singer, she’s accomplished what her rebrand was for after ARTPOP — now let’s get back to being experimental and artistic.

If not a synth heavy album I think she’ll very much go into a disco inspired era, but more on the Chic side than the “white girl” disco everybody associated the genre with.

I’d love for her to take inspiration from Chic, Kool And The Gang, Donna Summer and Diana Ross. Made fun and glittery disco but with emotional lyricism and storytelling. If she’s really working with Abel and Gorgio Moroder then that’s 100% where she’s going. I would’ve liked her to work with one half of Daft Punk too but I’m not sure if she will.

I’m forever annoyed at how people don’t make more of a fuss over the fact she was on Chic’a anniversary album and her cover of I Want Your Love exists. Like she legit had THE Nile Rogers producing her which is a flex that not even she talks about. I need somebody to bring it up because fans don’t talk about how legendary that is.

Idk but I’m not excited for this off season. The only album I have to look forward to is Lana’s but god knows when that is coming and possibly Melanie Martinez but the first installment was not that great so I don’t have high hopes for the utopian project

She'll do a children's album for her unborn triplets like Amy Lee from Evanescence did when she became a mom

And y'all will HATE it so much

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I think her next album will be the one she's involved in production the most and I feel like it'll be more about the music and less about the visuals. Hopefully Requiem was a teaser for the sound direction, after Mayhem I assume she'll make something more heavier and less pop. Personally I don't want no disco and no more 80s sound from her :messga:

Anyway, it seams like she's very much inspired to make more music so I'm sure the wait won't be long, she'll probably release it next year, but I don't think the era will be as big as Mayhem era (not in terms of success but in terms of content).
