She had the original sets from the magazine and then one on a bed with a very bright backdrop.

I guess I was misinformed about them being "for the album cover" years ago & then I just continued to believe that was the case lmao. All this time I thought to myself... "she made the right choice, even if it is a great shoot" lol 🤡

It IS a great shoot/set up, though

Nah the ones in the running for the cover were, the one I posted on Twitter with her arms covering her naked body, the slime image with pink hair and the motorcycle image. There’s also a variation of the motorcycle cover where the title is in 3D silver text as part of the bike instead of above her on the cover. 
 

But I do love that Vivanco shoot!

I don’t recall ever hearing about anything other than the slime image being chosen for the cover shot. I remember talking to Nicola about it at the time. The motorcycle idea came from Gaga and Starlight while they were high and it was apparently pretty last minute.

Also the “Government Hooker” film does exist and has technically already leaked. A lot of the footage is used in the “Born This Way” AvidDiva remix video.

Extra fun fact: there was a totally different cover shoot done for the album earlier in 2010. Nothing from it has leaked.

Her 2nd best album and one of the best of all time. I still listen to songs like Black Jesus + Amen Fashion, Government Hooker, Scheibe, Bloody Mary, Fashion Of His Love, You And I, Judas and Heavy Metal Lover frequently and I have very fond memories from when it came out and listening to it on my little Ipod shuffle (especially Hair). My all time favs are definitely Hair, Fashion Of His Love, Scheibe, Government Hooker, Marry The Night, Judas, Black Jesus + Amen Fashion, Electric Chapel, You And I and The Queen. It is just such a great album and it is my fav vocally from her as well.

Happy Birthday to one of Gaga's best albums, best eras, and one of the best times to have been a little monster! Thank you BTW for the immortal hits and all the joy you've brought me over the past 15 years!! 

Also, I'd like to use this opportunity to draw people's attention to a beautifully soft and angelic BTW era photoshoot, shot by Matt Irwin, that is highly nostalgic for me and needs to be more well known!

God I remember my mom HATING Gaga cause I worshipped her at the time. I convinced my aunt visiting from SC to buy me the deluxe at Best Buy and I RAN straight to my room to blast the album. I remember sobbing inconsolably. What I would do to experience her magnus opus for the first time again.

I love that photoshoot, it l’s currently in the pile of magazines on my desk I have from over the years. I remember searching for ages to get all 4 of the different coloured covers but only found 2

Oooo do we know what the shoot looked like or what the concept was? And why she changed it to the one Nick shoot

It was another shoot she did with Nick. The album cover was going to be a wedding portrait of Gaga and Jo Calderone, which was a concept she sort of revisited later for the “Yoü & I” video. No idea why it was changed, though. Maybe she wanted something that reflected the album’s title. A lot of the imagery revolved around being born (hence the slime and images of her coming out of that weird light dress). When I met her she even said the pink hair was called “afterbirth”

I remember them doing the rollout where you could listen to a few songs in advance and me and my friend had one of the high school laptops out in science constantly trying to hear it. we heard Americano and I sang it like all the way home they had to tell me to shut the f up.

That’s so cool I love that we find out more and more information every year about it. I wonder how the wedding photo concept would’ve came into it.

Kinda makes me think that she really did dedicate the album (secretly) to Luc, maybe the photo was too on the nose. I remembering hearing that You & I was considered an alt album title in the very early stages. Hence why the “this album is for u” has an umlaut above the Ü because it was low-key dedicated to Luc as well.
