Electric Venom 266
22 hours ago, PartySick said: Y'all don't appreciate the good production on Joanne and that's a shame tbh. Answering so easily for Chromatica when most of that album's sounds fell out of a garageband demo folder while real instruments being played by real people with tangible qualities only afforded to analog recording in real space where everything from temperature to air pressure to mic placement to what kind of rug they have in the room can give you a different sound is slept on 'cause "hur hur dead aunt yee haw album". As if the atmosphere in Diamond Heart isn't haunting af behind that driving beat and between those incredible choruses or Mark's guitar work on songs like A-Yo or Just Another Day aren't peak and unlike anything being done by her peers at the time, or that insane vocal, keys, and strings work on Angel Down (which is the answer to the question, btw) that creates that almost disturbing and incredibly uncomfortable feeling before resolving to that numb repeating outro layered beneath the harsh music box that gives you that real hollow feeling of "damn the world is actually broken and we're powerless to change it". And y'all can hate her all you want, that wavy indie inspired synth in Hey Girl alone eats Chromatica as a whole tf up any day of the week. 911 with her "kick-bum-snare-bum x500" lazy beat no depth having ass WISHES she was goddamn Hey Girl. Out here pretending the most interesting thing about Chromatica isn't just someone playing a Diana Ross song at 1.5x speed while some sampled drums play over her saying the word "replay" and not even actually mixing the song to sound like a stuttering tape as a kind of foley-ish mood appropriate decision or whatever the technical terms would be. The lady just says "replay ruh replay" which has always bothered me 'cause that was a choice they made and it was the WRONG ONE! WHY did you not actually chop the word "replay RE-replay"?! Y'all suck, you really do, I'm so sorry Joanne, forgive them. Even your younger sister Mayhem couldn't show them the light. Actually, the answer for Chromatica is the interludes 'cause they had a real orchestra playing them and they're incredibly complex and moving considering how short the pieces really are. CIII/Sine From Above would be the objective answer had they actually used the orchestra to create the song but instead it was back to Bloodclot and company deciding to ditch the nearly 30 musicians they assembled by fading their work into a sampled rain sound and then pushing buttons to make string plucks Lemme take a nap, I'm so cranky and maybe starting to not be the soberist
