Vulture/NY Magazine reports on “clipping” and narrative campaigns being promoted on Discord, including Justin Bieber’s Coachella performances where clippers were offered up to $1 per 1,000 views for clips x

Clipping a tactic in which a label or celebrity hires a firm to cut content into short clips and spread them through normal-looking accounts to trigger early views, tricking algorithms into boosting them as if they’re organically popular to push those videos even further

In March, co-founders of the digital music-promotion agency Chaotic Good Projects, gave an interview to a Billboard in which they breezily described using sock-puppet accounts to manufacture enthusiasm from major-label pop stars to niche indie acts.

Chaotic Good’s interview went viral and made lots of real people mad.
Some were appalled by the cynicism of the company’s pitch, others by its client list, which included indie artists whose popularity fans preferred to imagine had spread organically. Most of the outrage focused on the Brooklyn band Geese and its frontman Cameron Winter.
[other clients (they likely did "campaigns," to push individual songs/albums for) : Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Tame Impala, Mitski, Gorillaz, Travis Scott, Childish Gambino, Alex Warren, Sombr, Zara Larsson, Mumford & Sons, Bleachers, Wet Leg, Laufey, Dove Ellis, Oklou, MJ Lenderman, Dijon, Mk.gee, Slayyter, Jane Remover, Racing Mount Pleasant, Esdeekid, Montel Fish, Hatchie, Kevin Atwater, Timmy Skelly, This is Lorelei, Tiffany Day, Water From Your Eyes, 2Hollis, Nettsppend, The Hellp, Lustr, Frost Children, Chanel Beads, Aldn, Snow Strippers, Ethan Regan, The Brook & the Bluff, Jake Thistle, Hudson Freeman, Tash Blake, Stephen Wilson, Babe Dylan, Dogpark, Yot Club, The Jack Wharff band, SACHI, Lovertown, Miley, Tommy Fleece, Ebril, Fawn Burke, Mae Stephens, Brothel in Belize, Hayley Sakkara, Sayso, Cat & Calmell, Postanimal, Fievel is Glauque, Sounds Mint, Nate Sib, Scout Willis, Ayokay & XCII x]

REALITY

I wouldn't be surprised. There are probably tons of online campaigns that look real but were, in fact, started and/or perpetuated by bots or by people purposefully pushing their own content.

I certainly hope that's the case here :selena: Because the amount of people I've seen praising his Coachella set made me lose faith in humanity a bit  I'd rather have them all be bots or people who were paid to say that :ladyhaha:
