There was an interview with Parris where it was said they planned the choreo and outfits about a month out.

why was the mayhem merch pop up at Coachella spiky and bright ass yellow when it could have been orange, red, black, grey even?

The Grammy photo as the tour poster felt extremely cheap and looked like it was edited on Picsart. They could have at least pulled an outtake from the album shoot or something. 

I do think that the tour was kind of winged although I did enjoy it.

Honestly the Mayhem shoot is really not great, so it wasn't easy to use.. but she could have gotten any photographer for a quick shoot, used the Disease or Abra costumes and done something cool ala the Rolling stones photoshoot. But who knows what happened in the backstage of it all since she did say she didn't plan on touring. 
As for the merch.. god knows what was going on there, especially the use of CLO3D renders for the e-shop images  very photoshop is my passion

The merch for the tour was awful. I saw it when I went and didn't even bother getting any cause it was overpriced(especially here in Aus) and it all looked cheap and basic.
