It could be said.

It'd be without merit. Much like the constant queer erasure/bi erasure.

Yeah, I definitely remember Gaga being a post-apocalyptic Satanic nun during the BTW era /s

Ngl it sounds more like you have a narrow scope of what you think Gaga’s style is as opposed to her being derivative of other artists 🤷‍♂️

Not really I mean the organ, rubble scape and synthesizers are things Gaga heavily used before especially during the BTW era and gothic imagery especially was her thing back in 2009-2012 the veils and dark clothing have all been done before by her and the sounds sound like they were taken straight out of the 80s songbook especially Zombieboy and KIllah. An example I would use is the Grum remix of Bad Romance from the The Remix album. It sounds like an 80s version of Bad Romance(which I like and am not knocking btw) if that was the original version of the song released on TFM people could rightfully say it sounds too derivative/not transformative enough and too much like that sound/decade. I had this issue with Mayhem as well the second I heard Lovedrug I thought of the song "You Keep Me Hanging On"  by The Supremes and that sound carries through a lot of the album. Now I am not saying Gaga isn't allowed to be inspired by the 80s obviously it runs through most of her work but there is a way to do it tastefully and in a way that sounds inspired and not just a pastiche of the decade.

Well that actually sounds more like The Monster Ball/TFM era but when is she a post apocalyptic nun during Requiem?, I thought she was going more for mechanical/dark opera aesthetics or like a gospel singer with funeral vibes especially because of the veils and the outfit she wears during Disease.

The look at the beginning, imo, is evocative of the Bene Gesserit from Dune (who are essentially nuns) and the post apocalyptic component is based on the framing of the show as taking place hundreds of years in the futures in the ruins of the opera house from MAYHEM.

You educating another Gaga fan on what ARTPOP was all about? Really? You an expert in what ARTPOP is? Apparently, you're smarter than me. So please, explain what ARTPOP is and tell me why Runway doesn't fit the bill. :awkney:

it was meant to be a cheeky response, not "educating". sorry if i offended u </3

both lyrically and sonically it's meant to be a product, more than an art piece. not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it IS what the song is. meanwhile ARTPOP as a project was a rebellion against that so I'd say they're very different.

i'm obviously not claiming to be smarter than u, i just very passionately disagree lol

not everyone has a feeling of distinct queer identity, or even know how to express that uniquely

It kinda counteracts Queer's concept of "freedom of identity" in some ways.

I don't think I got your point. Queerness is, and has always been, about being different from the hegemony's ideals, about going against the standard sexual and gender norms. No matter what rainbow capitalism does to our perception of ourselves, no matter how much our history is erased, we, our bravery, our resilience, will never go away. "Stereotyped aesthetics" aren't inherently harmful, because they are holding meaning to our identities. Not all gays are drag queens and not all lesbians are butches but aren't these core identities (amongst so many) of queer history? We are flamboyant indeed, we are loud indeed, we are deviant indeed, and all of these are queer signatures, that we can finally be proud of after fighting for centuries. Of course there isn't gonna have a single way of being queer, that has never been the point, it's about community, the point of common struggle we all share. Which is why not every lgbt person is queer – they may live a life of disregard about "their own" community as a whole, and straight up deny all of it. They conform to the norms by not embracing the community. We are not the same.

So a bunch of people with colourful hair and piercings can be seen as a bunch of queers but there is nothing about it that isn't "distinct" or "unique" or "free" just because they are together (and therefore looking alike), that is just a reflection of the signs we've associated with a queer style

(P.s.: i started writing this a couple hours ago and then I kinda lost the plot so correct me if I misunderstood what you said)

Ok and that is fine but it doesn't address my point about the themes and ideas you mentioned(apocalypse inspired and nun/darker imagery) being done before by her specifically at the Monster Ball (both 1.0 and 2.0). And I don't think that aesthetic was present at all during Requiem it was more so gothic imagery with the organs and veils which is very BTW and 2010ga especially. I am specifically saying Gaga is doing something like her older work/visuals not referencing outside of that.

No I totally get you man this is beautifully and eloquently put. 'Queer' will always be much deeper and intricate than how it's perceived. I was just waffling about superficial stereotypes - how groups, communities and sub cultures all tend to gravitate to a stereotypical look, and how some people copy that look to feel part of it rather than find something more authentic to themselves if that makes sense :icega:. It wasn't a jab at the queer community or it's virtue.

You specifically asked me where she was portraying a post-apocalyptic nun in the post that was replying to, so it actually directly addressed your point lmao. Also again, in what world are either Monster Ball’s post apocalyptic and even if there are similar types of symbols, in what world are they being used in the same way? You’re gonna tell me the latex nun’s habit in LG TMB 2.0 is the same type of nun imagery as REQUIEM? You’re broadly gesturing at vibes and motifs without even engaging with how they’re being styled, how they’re staged, and how they’re used and acting like any remote similarity means they’re functionally the same lol
