Reez 605
This is so surprisingly good. I love the concept of her just standing and DJ-ing, it’s so simple yet so strong. This version sent me to heaven. I really hope she explores more of this sound

Hydrangea 7,133
After this song being driven into the ground from Instagram reels and tiktok it’s nice to see it revived this way and I wasn’t expecting such a dark techno vibe, well done gags Looking down at my $t loser misery

I don't understand his reaction Depending on contracts etc he may have never known it had been cleared by his label. Its like Weird Al parodies - he never does a song unless he's been able to have personal contact with the singer to approve it because he's had issues in the past of labels blocking or approving it without consulting the artist. tigerteeth 661
I wasn‘t ready! Goosebumps and tears… that f’ing sample is a godsend. JohnnyVersace 9,214
I could be wrong - but didn't people in attendance say she was playing Kavinsky as the ambient music before the show started? Seems like Nightcall was very much the jumping point for the whole show

I don't understand his reaction Yes but most cases these publishing licenses are handled by a third party or the labels publishing departments. They usually just give unilateral usage as long as the requestor pays the corresponding license. Artist may never actually be looped in.

It seemed random at the time, but they were obviously in some kind of nuclear testing or launch facility. And now, in the end, it feels like this takes place a few hundred years later, after a nuclear war (?), with someone digging up and discovering the remnants of the Mayhem opera house. She seems almost like a ghost or a hologram roaming through those ruins, and you can only hear fragments of the songs, as if they are distant memories and that's why they sound changed and not like the originals. Your insights feel like an evolution of the Monster Ball concept she described to MTV News (Rest in Publishing, digital archives) back in the day When I’m on stage that’s the narrative of the show. As a fashion stance the clothing evolves. It begins in sort of a warbly, blue state, and it’s kind of spacy. Then I grow bones, and then I grow hair, and then I grow horns, and then I become a sexy full-bodied woman in a world full of war and military. Then I become myself, by the end of the show. It’s sort of this apocalyptic rebirth when I appear in the orbit and I’ve done it again. The show is like the ultimate, epitome, symbol of what that ‘Fame Monster’ is that we perceive in our heads. The wardrobe shift from liturgical funerary to this sort of steampunk Metropolis-after-Dark-Ages against a post-industrial Gothic Metropolis cathedral backdrop stage also feels like it echoes the emergence of the first Manifesto‘s spiritual hologram amidst this apocalyptic tundra … a sort of spiritual / ethereal (?) revolutionary coursing amidst industrial establishment collapse 1
onionring 724
I had something on my mind since I've first heard dwas requiem, would you guys celebrate it as an achievement and triumph in gagas artistry if it wasn't a rework or subversion of the original? I know for fact if she'd released this sound with the weekend some of y'all wouldn't shut up about that's a fully weekend track and she's just a feature, same way you did with runway, same way you did with dwas My point is a substantial portion of this fandom fail to recognize her contribution and her input in her own sound and vision Edited 2 hours ago by onionring

This is basically a cover which I’m pretty sure it’s allowed to be performed and recorded without the need of any legal action. It’s probably like when Madonna performed Born This Way. You can’t stop people from performing your songs

Now their social media posted that they love her but she could have let them know, which is valid but also you can’t expect every single person who covers your song to ask you for permission, specially when it’s the one song people recognize you for

I think what Bronco said is what happened and he just didn’t know about it because his label cleared it for him
