Just came back to say that I need that version of HBDUWM to play in my ears for the rest of my life. The extended vocal runs from 3:23 onwards are hauntingly beautiful. Dare I say it's enough to make it my favourite Gaga song of all time? I might.. I might just say it.

I think as a live show the lack of choreo would be fine but expecting people to sit 1hr in front of a tv to watch someone play piano feels like a lot in an ADHD-tik-tok streaming world imo.

:triggered: me, an audhd person, having already spent 2 hours in front of the tv to watch Gaga play the piano and synths... never underestimate those of us who have gagafocus

HBDYWM might be my favorite part of the entire thing. Her pleading her case towards the end with those vocals. I just can't 😭

also, just realized this morning that the phrase has some semantic ambiguity, which all the sudden makes me appreciate the song even more, as if this was even possible after seeing her perform live during TMB. God, I just love that woman so much

The second verse of HBDUWM is out of sync right?

The synths started a little bit out of sync. It could be intentional but after hearing it for the 30th time you get used to it

She's a genius... she made me love the Mayhem songs that I liked less. The new versions of HBDYWM, DWAS, The Beast, and Blade of Grass are ****ing perfect! I'm obsessed!

I also loved LoveDrug (which was already one of my favorites on the album) and Perfect Celebrity.

I'm surprised by how much everyone loves this Killah version, because it's a bit 'meh' to me (not saying it's bad, though).

The only thing insane here is your take that Gaga could make anything horrible. :traumatica:

Except that they are all pretty much the same when it boils down to song structure and overall vibe? The placements of verse, chorus, bridge is pretty much exactly the same for every single song. Abra actually at least had that acoustic intro, which was different from the album. I suppose it was part of the Requiem intent, to perform the entire album "as-is", but the marketing of it being "reimaginings" was misleading imo. EDIT: relistening to the arrangements, yes ok they do sound different, but since the vocal melody is pretty much unchanged for every single song, that's maybe more what I was referring to originally when I said I expected more "reimagining", if that makes sense?

Most of the up-tempo songs stayed up-tempo, most of the down-tempo songs stayed ballady and slow... To me, reimaginings should be an opportunity for the song to really be seen in a new light and showcase its strengths across different compositions, arrangements, etc. I think of things like even the Poison version of Disease she recorded, and that was closer to what I was thinking would happen. Or even an entirely stripped-back, acoustic set à la City of Lover. I'm glad you (and most people) liked it though. I think as a live show the lack of choreo would be fine but expecting people to sit 1hr in front of a tv to watch someone play piano feels like a lot in an ADHD-tik-tok streaming world imo. Thanks for being respectful in your reply though.

I’m glad you spent a little more time with it, but I honestly still think the melodies and phrasing have been pretty notably reimagined in each song, tbh. Also no shade re: the shortened attention span comment, but I would honestly rather artists make more media that challenges people’s attention spans (although I do think REQUIEM is plenty stimulating) than placate them.

There is also now a 15 minute Behind the Scenes video for Requiem on Apple Music. I'm sure I'm just late.
