Morphine Prince 109,709
For the first time in three years, Americans’ wages are no longer outpacing inflation. Prices rose 0.6% on a monthly basis, driving the annual rate to 3.8%, the highest since May 2023, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Prior to the late-February US-Israeli strikes on Iran, inflation had eased to 2.4%. It leaped higher in March, and now, the energy price shock from the Iran war is further compounding longstanding affordability concerns for Americans weighed down by years of fast-rising prices. I know not the main focus of OP but I wanna point out something that gets ignored a lot... INFLATION IS NOT COST OF LIVING. They are closely related but they are not the same thing Wages long term have more or less kept up with inflation and in many cases actually risen (depending which time periods you measure from) but it doesnt feel like it because cost of living has risen more than inflation, and true cost of living has risen MORE than wages

Id kill for $4 a gallon and people in Europe even more currently here for a gallon (which is almost 4 litres) of petrol it would cost you about £5.10 on average I think. The average person spends about £100 PER WEEK now for a car which is insane when £100's worth of petrol when i grew up could last you almost a month depending. Last long distance trip I went on from Newcastle to Cornwall and including all the driving around between places and then back home it cost me £350 almost for 10 days

Especially since the US isn't dense like Europe with their walkable cities and public transportation Suddenly you have people here literally deciding between groceries and being able to transport themselves somewhere They're not weak for being pissed off about that And mind you, the other half of that chick's argument was "they should be grateful they live in the most free country in the world" Whimsical bitch

We are all now suffering the consequences of higher prices. Vindication ain’t going to take that away and we are just going to have to suffer.
