Madonna and Kylie...

Commercially, MADONNA is bigger for sure, but in terms of delivering consistent good albums, I think Kylie had an advantage. In the 80s and 90s,  Madonna ruled like a Queen, but in the 00s, 10s, and 20s, I feel Kylie is more confident and stabilizing more gracefully. What's your opinion?

Both had their ups and downs, but one thing that Kylie definitely leads in is not needing forced controversy to keep her career going. Madonna hat a lot of misses in the 2010s when she tried to stay relevant (although she never was not) by somehow proving that she "stayed young" and chasing trends that she didn't have to. Kylie also followed some trends but you could still see the "core" of Kylie in everything she does.

I have seen both live during their last tours. The Kylie one was one of the best nights ever, Madonna was okay.

Overall I listen to Kylie a lot more and I like about 98 % of her songs she has released since Impossible Princess.

Madonna hasn’t released anything this decade so it’s a bit unfair but Kylie has some minor solo hits over Madonna for sure this decade.

Oh yes, that's true, Madonna doesn't have anything in the 20s; but what about 00s, 10s?

I think both had their last widely commercial hit at the beginning of the 2010s with "Give Me All You Luvin" and "All The Lovers". Now Kylie had a well deserved resurgance with "Padam Padam" and I hope that something from Confessions II also takes off, it looks promising as of now.

What really makes me like Kylie much more is that she still is very down to earth and calm while Madonna sometimes gives off a lot of Diva energy and seems kinda arrogant (starting her show 2.5 hours late for example)...

I think 2010’s Kylie also clears.

I've always preferred Kylie's discography to Madonna's. I find it far superior.

I feel like people now embrace Kylie more nicely!

2000’s…

Kylie had 17 top 100 entires in Australia, 17 in the UK, and 4 in the USA.

Madonna had 16 top 100 entries in Australia, 17 in the UK, and 12 in the USA.

I guess Madonna would have the edge since Kylie couldn’t fully tap into the U.S. market.

Hard to argue if CGYOOMH is bigger than Hung Up tho…

Its a difference in personalities that makes the 2 stand out for me. Madonna was always at the top, and is a diva with an ego. The fall from the top definitely impacted her music and she went trend chasing.

Where as Kylie never really hit the top to the same extent - like she never cracked America. She had her "wilderness" era almost immediately upon going solo from PWL & Stock/Aiken/Waterman after Better the Devil You Know, so for her success was never a forgone conclusion. And she left PWL to do what she wanted and I think it made her a more grounded artist when she got her 2nd peak with Spinning Around and CGYOMH.

Like I remember an interview or a doc where it was revealled that because of how tight the budget was on the Impossible Princess tour, she had to do her own makeup for every show on the tour and as a result has done it on every tour since then. Meanwhile, Madonna doesn't even show up on time lol

Madonna is definitely the more creative of the two, but Kylie's had more consistency purely because she's built a very specific niche for herself and never done anything other than embrace that campy/cheesy feel good factor.
Like you get a way more consistent "product" from Kylie. Madonna has higher highs, but lower lows.

let's be honest.. at some point, kylie was ahead of her time, and madonna followed.

Music is Light Years.

Confession is Fever.

Hard Candy is Body Language

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Otherwise spot on.

Madonna & Kylie have a total yin & yang dynamic.

True but I think it took Kylie almost 10 years to be an interesting artist in the beginning of her career. Then I was a huge fan of her and it kept getting better! But ever since Tension album, there is something different about Kylie and she became boring for the first time!
