You can see this when you look at global spotify top 50 - this is not unique to Katy. Lots of old songs in there Is it that new music fails to captivate or is it that people are getting depressed and turning to older music for nostalgia? Streaming charts and thus charts generally are working fundamentally different, one can say more HONEST, today. People listened to albums and songs after buying them, for years and decades, the charts just never reflected that, only the sale counted. Big hits were always played on the radio and on MTV, years and decades later, charts just didn’t reflect that like they do now.
