Good on her! People can pretend their issue is her delivery but there is nothing she could have said that would have immediately convinced them to become vegan. It’s just a weak excuse that purposefully avoids addressing the merits of her points and makes people feel internally justified in their ongoing support for such an unnecessary and cruel treatment of sentient animals.

There is no point trying to appeal to people who oppose cruelty only when it is visible, individual, and socially condemned but tolerate it when it is hidden, industrialised, convenient, and served with chips.

These people are hardly revolutionary leaders when they can’t even change what they eat for breakfast and they clearly don’t hold any strong moral convictions if they are happy to let the status quo remain the same for some minor comfort.

This is about creating wider discussion and normalisation of these views in the mainstream.

I’ve seen some good discussion on my socials.

She 100% means eating meat is wholly unethical, tbh. The original statement is pretty unambiguous about that (and if that’s not what she meant, she should’ve said something else lol)

I took her comment (both this one and her original) as her talking about the meat industry and other unethical practices used on animals.

If she truly meant that eating meat in and of itself is unethical, then I fundamentally disagree with that. But I still stand by my original comment otherwise. I do think there’s some cognitive dissonance when people claim to be an animal lover while simultaneously supporting industries that unethically kill/treat them. I’m hypocritical in that regard and I’d say that everyone else like me is too, whether we want to admit that or not.

Billie:

”F*ck supporting a system of industrialised cruelty where sentient animals are forcefully impregnated, separated from their babies, confined in cages and crates, mutilated without meaningful relief, psychologically wounded by fear and deprivation, bred into bodies that cause them pain, denied sunlight, family, freedom and comfort, then transported in terror and killed for profit. If you say you love animals you shouldn’t be supporting their exploitation like this”

GGD:

”That hurt my feelings :healedmyheart: She could have been nicer about it”

Not what anyone said, but not really sure why I’d expect you to engage in good faith tbh.

Pretty solid distillation of your ethos, tbh. Could’ve just left it at that and you would’ve had roughly the same effect.

Can’t wait for this to devolve into another entirely circular, non-persuasive thread dominated largely by one person that goes on for upwards of 20 pages

A lot of commentary around her tone which I disagree with tbh.

It is the sentiment - can quote multiple users in this thread already that have an issue with her tone.

It isn’t about you. As mentioned it’s actually about creating a wider discussion that can reach people who are compassionate, actually hold strong moral convictions and are not going to support cruelty because it’s widely socially accepted or due to a minor inconvenience if they were to stop.

You're talking about "good faith arguments" but have not once tried to reasonably engage with the argument for or against veganism and instead want to write snarky replies and post off topic gifs giggling about turning this thread into 20+ pages of your own bloat.

This is what modern discourse has been reduced to: back-and-forth bickering with zero substance, individualistic acts of "I don't give a ****, stay mad" and no attempt whatsoever to build or engage in constructive dialogue for a better society. It’s just virtue signaling with extra steps.

That’s all discourse is, though. In her case she’s just standing by her values which whether they’re yours or not has to be more commendable than the bs or spins we get these days

she never refered specifically to meat coming from the conglomerates of the meat industry, she never made a distinction, she never alluded exceptions, or anything of the sort, she made a rigid statement and she rightfully got criticized for it.  Now she's on her socials backpedaling, mad at a strawman, mad because ppl criticized her and not engaging in the slightest in what the discourse actually is and what she's even getting criticized by. Also, even if she meant to say exclusively meat from the meat industry, that statement deserves criticism too, because for lower class people meat is what's the most readily available and the cheaper option to get a balanced diet, that it's not their fault, a fully nutritious vegan diet is not affordable or reachable for everyone, If the statement was directed at people who have the resources available to change their diet and have the power to try to dismantle these industries, then yes, but by what she said the title of animal lover is class reserved and only worthy for the wealthy people that can op out of meat with ease...

This girl has the right intentions but she’s so annoying. Where do you think Gucci gets their leather from? You know the brand she keeps wearing and promoting. She also has promoted certain makeup brands that test on animals. The way she feels somehow superior to people that eat meat but still feels entitled to profit from brands that test on or use animal products is so hypocritical. It’s just like when she was caught drinking Starbucks or when she was selling her vinyls after calling out other artists for doing that exact same thing. She is the typical privileged white girl that uses causes as a clutch to feel better about her privilege

Veganism is great but this is not a good way of promoting it. You don’t get ti point fingers while also profiting from animal suffering.
