The Province of Ontario is share costing $300M to help build what will be the worlds largest Nuclear Power Plant

It will be an expansion of 4,800 MegaWatts and can power about 4.8 Million additional Homes bringing total power production at the site to 12,000 Megawatts or enpugh to power 12 million to 14 million homes.  About half of Ontarios electricity already comes from Nuclear, the Provinces largest power source. The next largest source Hydro Electricity is less than half of that of Nuclear

Edit: OP edited to clarify 4,800MW is the expansion. The total counting already existing production will be even larger at 12,000MW

Facts

In my country, the Green party was very much against nuclear energy and wanted more gas plants, which are CO2 intensive and makes us very dependent

Thats surprising. Is ur "green party" the far left party with emphasis on environemnt as well like it is here in Canada?

Our Green party might not love nuclear but i dont think theyd ever endorse natural gas over Nuclear :oprah:

Yes and during Covid the minister of Energy was from that party. Now she is the CEO of a European Wind Energy concern...

Im sure that wind energy benefited from shutting nuclear :toofunny:

Not that wind isnt great as an energy source at appropriate amounts but its interesting how she now works somewhere that benefited from that decision :enigma:

Edit: I dont know the nuances of your Countries power grid. Id say in general though if you want to expand wind, expand it on top of nuclear as new demand comes and nuclear plants age. Dont decomission nuclear early if you already built nuclear plants that are perfectly functional and essentially throw out money just because would be my 2 cents. They do not harm the environment as much as fossil fuel plants even though its not foot print free.
