Economy 52,895 Posted May 6 Share Posted May 6 (edited) https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/business/2026/05/06/suncor-on-track-to-become-one-of-north-americas-lowest-cost-oil-producers-analyst/ Another oil giant (Suncor) has gotten production costs down to nearly $40/barrel ($42 to be exact), joining other Canadian Oil giants such as Canadian Natural Resources, Cenovus and Imperial all within $40 to $45 a barrel cost of productions Meanwhile USA shale drillers costs are steadily rising not only amod tarrif costs for things like steel but also due to tier 1 best acrage resource exhaustion forcing drilling into less economic areas pushing average production costs to $70 to $75 a barrel Despite stricter environmental standards and regulations plus a carbon tax, Canadian companies in a few short years managed to go from higher cost than US Shale to nearly half the operating costs as oil sands extraction technologies have come a long way including more energy efficiency and self driving trucks.
