Maia Sandu stated that a possible reunification of Moldova with Romania could accelerate Moldova’s path toward European Union membership, framing it as a potential advantage in the country’s broader integration strategy. She described EU accession as a strategic national objective and reinforced that any major constitutional or state-level change, including reunification, would require direct popular support. Nicușor Dan responded by reaffirming Romania is prepared for reunification with Moldova if that is the choice of its people. According to him, if a clear majority in Moldova were ever to support reunification, Romania would be ready to proceed, maintaining full alignment with that democratic outcome. To this end, Romania recently announced planning expanded cross-border infrastructure with Moldova, including building at least one bridge over the Prut in every border district. Their remarks also reflect a cautious sense of geopolitical optimism, shaped by the perceived weakening of Russia’s regional influence.
