Hi. I never post here but here it goes.  The mayhem album is as one of her best but probably the album where they got it wrong for  tracks picked off album as single releases. 
 

i mean disease is the worst lead single and that includes perfect illusion.  Maybe she doesn’t want to be the leading super star, but VIY, abacadabra, shadow of a man, how bad do you want me and garden of Eden should have been the sIngles released. VIY is a bloody classic. Who’s picking these songs for release.  If it’s some weirdo at interscope she should bloody leave them. It’s been such a missed opportunity.

I mean they did try to push GoE & Hbduwm with tv and radio spots. They never gained any serious traction. 

And ngl Disease as a lead single feels like a Gaga pick not a label pick. 

I don't see her leaving interscope, they let her do whatever the **** she wants these days.

Disease is truly incredible. Flop music video and flop promo was its problem. Should have had video and vinyl ready on release day. I agree that there should have been one more single and video between Abra and TDD, and it probably should have been VIY.

The incessive micro managing is lowkey ruining this fanbase, no offence.

It's also why some of her tracks never fully reach full flight, minus the tours.

It's like every other thing she does is "too little" or "too much".

This is gonna be a long read but I keep seeing both old and young fans talk sh*t about how her career runs now when we’ve JUST finished the best pop era a popstar has done in the 2020s tbh. Because Gaga is the last standing true “era” artist. But here’s the rundown;

Gaga renewed her contract with Interscope a few years ago now but they gave her more creative liberties. Disease was absolutely a Gaga pick when a label would absolutely have chosen Garden or even Abra. But we need to talk about the REALITY here. It’s her best sounding lead single choice since Bad Romance. 

Interscope for better or worse played part in Gaga’s exhausting schedule that ultimately gave her long term health problems and almost ruined her ability to perform live again. That’s why now they allow her and Bobby to make their own schedule and her schedule is fine and perfect for her age and the time in her life.

And it’s been since revealed Bobby was in charge of marketing during BTW and it shows this era. Because this has been her biggest era in like 13-14 years whether you like the song picks or not. The tour was her highest grossing tour ever and she only fell ill like twice and took the time off needed. 

Also we’re in the age of streaming where the album still gets streams so the money still rolls in regardless, and as @Bronco said above, the numbers dont lie and the other songs never took off. Gaga luckily has the ability to craft magic hit singles whilst also making amazing music that pushes her creatively. And that’s why Mayhem is her best era AND album ever point blank period. 
 

She’s not the same age as the artists everyone likes nowadays, so she lacks the universal appeal. She never had it in the first place because of her being a strong person, LGBTQ+ advocate, feminist and a rockstar.

Ageism, sexism and other factors always affect artists even beyond Gaga.
