So you think art only has value if it’s broadly critically appreciated? Lady Gaga, for many years, was, imo, critically undervalued and yet, I’m sure her earlier albums having subpar MetaCritic scores didn’t depreciate your enjoyment of them (or your belief that they may be better than albums that came out around the same time that were more warmly received) because you personally enjoyed them. Time has passed and many critics have just recently come around to a lot of Gaga’s earlier work and view it in a more favorable light. Is it the case that the music only just magically became good via critical consensus or is it possible that taste *in general* is fairly fickle and contingent?
 

It’s not that critical reception or cultural consensus don’t matter so much as they don’t supersede individual perception insofar as an individual acknowledges (as @Roughhouse Dandyhas done multiples times) that they are expressing a preference (which, contrary to your implied proposition, doesn’t somehow erase critical consensus, it’s literally just a difference of opinion.

Misreading. Go back and read again. I pointed out it's not only sbout "this website" as the user claimed (as if this website is hell bent upon championing Brat over Renaissance lol). It’s not a website bias. It can also be opinions shared with outside the forum, for example, the critics.

The user is free to express themselves. I'm not Hitler. But to claim the entire GGD thinks Charli is better than Beyonce is, quite feankly, factually incorrect. If their survey was correct, then the poll in this thread wouldn't have the result it has, meaning, Brat would've won by a landslide, which it isn't lol.

No one’s saying you’re Hitler and, if anything, you were the one giving too much power to a difference of opinion by acting like their bias claim needed to be disproven and as if a self-avowed Beyoncé stan’s offhand comment about bias has the weight of actually erasing cultural consensus or w/e. I get where you’re coming from, I just think you came in awfully hot about something that is fairly trivial.

If you go look at threads about Beyoncé, you'll see it's pretty quickly met with a certain aura of negativity compared to ones about Charli.

People were expecting a dance album from Charli, but since her boiler room set the expectations started to rise and oh diva the album did not disappointed, BRAT hit like a truck when it was released. People did not expect that from this ugly artificial neon green would emerge a batch of sincere and painful confessions that many of us can identify with. The blunt delivery of topics showcasing alienation and vulnerability with aggressive electronic production that can be heard on the parties where people often go to escape exactly those issues was really genius mix in my opinion. The moment after release was wild, Charli started pushing out featuring songs with high profile singers like Robyn, Billie, Lorde and Troye and then the anticipation of remix album. The whole rollout was a lightning in a bottle moment in pop culture.

Brat, it's more unapologetically authentic and I listen to it very often, often mixing some of the og with the remix songs (especially girl so confusing, guess and everything is romantic) wheras I barely made it through Renaissance which took a village of people to make for some reason. 

I also prefer the lyricism on Brat, Renaissance made me feel nothing for most the part. I will give it to Bey for the vocals and the album visuals. But brat gave us iconic videos and memes etc.
