I mean his career was incredible, and he's the ultimate pop icon so I can understand them just wanting to celebrate his artistry, but it's well known that he has a very dark side to his story and it feels disingenuous to not at least explore that a bit, even if they stayed neutral about it. Guessing the Jackson estate had a lot to do with this.

This is the reason my hopes were so low from the beginning.

I love MJ to death and I want him humanized but a project like this is just gonna portray him as this untouchable godlike figure that descended upon the Earth to change music forever.

Bro had an ego, he was an addict, he was deeply traumatized and lonely, he was FAR from perfect, dude held his baby out of a window ffs, and even though I fully believe he never hurt a child, he DID have a weird and unusual relationship with kids as he searched for surrogate families through his life.

Leaving any/all of that out just makes this project a goofy little unneeded glazing session for someone who is already lauded as the most successful and influential entertainer of all time.

It's like...what's the point? :air:

Considering this shares a lot of the same creative team as that god awful Queen movie I’m really not sure why anyone could ever shocked that this movie is apparently pretty bad.

It seems that it sands MJ down into the most bland, uninspiring person possible and strips him of all of his uniqueness and mystique in favor of trying to present him as a completely sqeuaky clean sanitized being that was incapable of any sort of fallibility. They didn’t make a movie about a person, they made a movie about an idea.

I was at the Hollywood premiere last night and it honestly exceeded my expectations. At the end of the movie they confirm that there is a second part coming. The movie only goes to 1988 and all of the allegations begin in the early 90’s. I’m sure it will be tackled. But I honestly think the media wanted more sensational headlines out of it rather than how they portray Michael as an actual person. I think they did an incredible job and I would make your own decision after seeing it for yourself.

Where is it Candy?
