So… why did they sleep on VIY?

Marry The Night (a noisy, overproduced, overrated, overlong LG track, to be sure) isn't even top 5 Born This Way, babyghoul

Again, I admire your dedication to being wrong on this, but it’s actually top 2 on BTW, interestingly enough!

I like Disease... but I would never, ever have chosen it a single... much less as the "lead" single.

Utterly bizarre. It should have been Abracadabra then Vanish Into You.

I truly believe that, had it been a single, VIY would have become more beloved/associated with LG than Edge of Glory or Marry The Night.

It is THE big, sweeping, epic love anthem from MAYHEM.

They fumbled it, I must say.

Funny enough I agree. I love Disease (my fav on the album actually)... but as a single it was doomed to fail tbh... too bizzare and intense.

VIY in place of Disease may have made sense. But then Id do Abra as the lead instead, followed by VIY next

I think Disease would’ve worked better if they pushed more as a Halloween single, dropped closer to the date, and maybe it could’ve been seen as a promo single with Abra being the actual lead?

Sometimes when I listen to Disease (which I don't do very often, for some reason) I imagine it as an album track; a song to be "stumbled upon" within the tracklist, rather than one that was pushed w a video.

Weirdly, doing so makes me like it much more. I actively root for it (& get hyped up by it) as an album track, rather than feeling put-off by it as a single.

How bizarre, how bizarre 🎶

Honestly, i don't think its radio friendly which would have stalled it with the GP as a single

The most GP friendly song would probably have been HBDYWM (and that would have been my vote) but even VIY is more GP friendly than Disease

Tbf i don't think Disease was picked for radio friendliness. I think they wanted a statement for the fans.

I get that. Its my fav song from Mayhem but i dont listen to it as much lately. I listen to Abra more and other songs i liked a lot like The Beast and BOG i listened to more

Disease is amazing but it doesnt have the highest replay value ever. My previous fav Gaga song (Ill Never Love Again) also didnt have amazing replay value for me either

Its interesting. Often the best songs seem like the have to be treasured by accessing them periodically and not ruining them by over playing

I can listen to Applause or Poker Face 10 or 20 times in a day if I want to but id get sick and tired if it did it with INLA. Yet INLA is the superior song for me but gets tiring quicker

I cant always listen to Disease as much as Abracadabra but Disease is still the superior song to me tbh

I agree. It may have also been selected to set a vibe for the album

The fact they promoted Abracadabra way harder i think shows they always knew Disease wasnt gonna smash and maybe it was never the intention

I still think not releasing HBDYWM as a final single was a missed oppurtunity but all good. We got 4 singles this era which tbh is rare nowadays and pretty much a best case scenario

Dunno. Feel everyone was seriously over estimating the halloween effect

It mainly boosts songs a lot for only 1-2 days and its predominantly for songs already classically associated with halloween (ex Thriller, Bloody Mary)

If the timing was more perfect for Disease with Halloween maybe it would have made a marginal difference. Probably not more than that tbh

My guess is that they released Disease because it was darker and fit with JFAD and maybe they hoped it would pull a Bloody Mary or at the very least, hype the OG fans which it did

But to let VIY rot? What were they thinking :traumatica:

This. And regardless of what Gaga said about choosing Dead Dance for Wednesday I feel a few of the songs on Mayhem were made inspired by Joker 2 as well as written for potentially Wednesday. Like how some tracks on Joanne felt like they would have been in the ASIB album.
