Tomas 156
The cast for The Lord of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum has been confirmed/further revealed at CinemaCon 2026. The biggest surprise is Jamie Dornan joining the film as Strider/Aragorn. There had been ongoing rumors about Leo Woodall joining the film to portray Strider, but he will be playing a character named Halvard. I myself have been SO against the recasting of Viggo, and when I heard Viggo was going to be recast I kind of wanted the film to be canceled altogether. But I can in all honesty say I am super excited. Most of the other cast had been pretty much confirmed, but it's nice to get the official announcement. Kate Winslet will be playing Marigol, I'm SUPER thrilled she's joining the LOTR franchise. Sir Ian Mckellen will be returning as Gandalf, Elijah Wood will be reprising the role of Frodo. Lee Pace will be back as Thranduil. I know I'm one of the few who actually loves The Hobbit, so personally I'm thrilled. Andy Serkis will be directing, and will of course be back as Gollum/Sméagol. The film hits theaters December 17th 2027. Fellow LOTR fans, what do we think? https://variety.com/2026/film/news/lord-of-the-rings-hunt-for-gollum-jamie-dornan-aragorn-1236625399/ Edited April 15 by Tomas
Sepsami 20,515
I really wish they would stop revisiting old established series/movies/universes. Creativity and authenticity are dying because they know this kind of crap sells. 5 1
gagzus 20,988
I‘m just ecstatic they got Ian back before he gets too old same for X-Men. And Elijah reprising as Frodo is epic. 2
Helxig 44,992
Whose gonna bet that the CGI will be worse 25 years later? And the lighting and colour grading too. I'm so sick of nostalgia bait. I'm starting to think all the good ideas have been made already I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Studios dont risk money on new franchises or anything anymore unless they’re a guaranteed money making machine. Dune for instance was a risk that paid off because of its cult book following. With how Planet of the Apes has been looking better with each version I don't doubt this should look good if they are precise about things

What counts as major? Nolan, Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson and some others shoot pretty much exclusively on film and I think Sinners was film too. edit: actually 5 of the best picture oscar nominations last month were shot on film Edited April 15 by Defmix100 extra
