As cute as they are and as much as even I would love to have one, this is not really positive news for them as a species. Tell that to my army of house raccoons I dare you to try to rip my joy from their tiny opposable thumbs Edited April 14 by spookytanooki as seen on tv

Roughhouse Dandy 13,855
A mutual friend rehabs them and they really are the sweetest, funniest lil pals to have around the house. I'd gladly adopt one if/when I'm allowed to! Their life span in captivity is similar to a small dog's 🥳 Edited April 15 by Roughhouse Dandy This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss. Helxig 45,622
Have you heard of the (unfortunately unethical) studies done on foxes where they selectively bred multiple generations for traits like calmness, friendliness towards humans etc? After several generations of picking the offspring with the most compatible traits for living alongside humans they also developed floppier ears, different coat patterns, larger more baby-like eyes and features. It's so interesting that domesticated mental traits seem to pair up with specific physical traits when we selectively breed different animals Also yeah it totally makes sense that racoons would domesticate themselves like cats did thousands of years ago. They want food, they're curious, they've lived around humans for a long time now so they're multiple generations in who have less fear of humans, and humans find them cute and accept their presence. So interesting to think about. If it weren't modern times, I imagine more simplistic human groups would fully take them in, and over time they would be just like cats I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
