Yeah, really. If the Weeknd did it, most of his fans would vibe and the gp would barely mention it because he's a man and the bar is low for them. If Beyoncé did it, her fans would "forgive" her for it and the gp would ridicule her.

Demographic isn't just race and that's far from the only factor, but it certainly is a factor.

Sure, gender and race can play a small part but it’s more about how iconic the artist is and how much status/wealth they have.

Also, Justin is getting a lot of heat and criticism for this so it’s not like he is forgiven just because he is a white man.

I also want to say that mainstream female artists tend to market themselves from the get go with an emphasis on visuals and fashion so fans expect that. Male artists typically don’t. In fact, it might be counterintuitive for Justin Bieber, for example, to do a maximalist performance with deep art, high fashion, etc. It’s a lot to with branding, marketing and fan expectations. It’s not inherently sexist or racist..

I don’t mean to be argumentative, and I’m not playing devils advocate. Just saying what makes sense to me.

I understand where you're coming from and I believe you're sharing your honest opinion in good faith, I just can't imagine a popular artist that isn't a white guy getting away with a show like this that cost $10 mil. It wasn't a necessarily important thing to bring up in the first place, but I defended the comment because it wasn't brought up without merit and I find the way understandable comments like that are immediately challenged on here weird.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

I can tell it just occurred to her that she couple play Teenage Dream MVs in her next tour and the fans would go crazy

why does the fact that he's white got anything to do with it?

Yeah but loads of his fans are eating it up.

And i just saw the day 3 merch queues and it was all at JBs booth and none at Sabrina's.

And yeah the owner gets his bag anyway - but old rich white men hate being embarrased. Justin Bieber is the highest paid headliner ever and look what he did. That's an embarrassment.

ohh yeah his fans would eat anything up of course, his nostalgia act is just enough to get them satisfied, i meant more music fans in general, not his years devoted fans.
Does this really embarrass him? idk it is all on the account of bieber, the owner gets his bag and bails out, i don't see how any of this might hurt his ego, he even prob liked it too

It's a shame that everything always has to boil down to issues with race.

And it's honestly kinda ridiculous all this hysteria over a Justin Bieber performance of all things. Like rly who tf cares lol.

Ye it was simple and low effort, but from what I've seen the majority of his fans present really enjoyed the show, and found it a cute and humble way of him connecting with the fanbase. It's only the non fans and haters that are outraged by it. And as for the gays, all they care about is big flamboyant campy shows with choreography and maximalism. Something minimalist like this would typically go straight over their heads.

But yes, it would be great to see non white artists or female artists get the same level of praise for more minimalist performances. And I'm pretty sure they'd all do it better than Bieber lol. Unfortunately the vast majority of the GP have very poor taste in general, so typically the likes of Justin Beiber are put on pedestals.
