There is no concept or planning in this performance lol

Okay? As a very small artist that does shows like this in my hometown - I thought it was kind of cool to see a big celebrity doing something similar to what I do as one singular man trying to fulfill every part of production all on my own. I think he could have done better with it given the resources he has. But I also don’t think every performance needs to have massive production.

I thought the concept was actually kinda cool and could have been a lot more fun if he had just planned it a bit better.

The concept would be cool for a small, surprise, exclusive event I think. But for a big festival where many people paid so much to have a planned professional show? No.

This performance aside, do celebrities really get that excited when seeing one of their peers perform - especially one who debuted around the same time and they've probably met many times? I can understand why people like me lose it when they finally get to see an artist they stanned for more than 15 years, but this? :air:

A “planned professional show”. What does that even mean? Performance art is so subjective. Y’all know the massive shows are only the headliners - right? The majority of Coachella is smaller sets with minimal production. Some shows don’t even have active screens.

Wow trying to Outdo his Grammys performance I see. Was in his underwear for no reason 🤣😅

This era is so lazy for him and the fact that the music industry hyped him up again. That last album didn’t deserve no Grammy performance or any nominations at that…. He is now FOR REAL OVERHYPED by thirsty girls.

Why do some men constantly get away with less than mid effort and performances. Not ALL men i must stress, but if a woman went on stage and did that they would be dragged through the mud, much more than the backlash im seeing from this set. What a joke

Maybe I'm just a victim of my own ignorance, because I just have no interest in the lore and background of Justin Bieber. But from what I have experienced of him, I find it impossible to believe that this is artistic choice and not just lack of effort. I cannot suspend my disbelief that what he is doing is art, by his own standards; and what he is actually doing is a job for money and branding.

I think this would be really great art if it were done with sincerity, and if the point was to make fun of the artifice of high-production performances, I would say it does so successfully. But just because it has merit when viewed through a performance-art lens does not mean he crafted this performance as a work of art.

You'd be surprised by how many males enjoy his catalogue.

We are sort of in this social age where many of the younger generations prefer the whole "less is more" aesthetic hmm.

REALITY

So much of today’s male artists are such an embarrassment, my god. Give me production and theatricality like Bowie, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Queen, Prince, etc., etc. The fact that male artists today are getting away with doing the bare minimum is frustrating, especially when female artists will get crucified for the simplest things.

It doesn't need to be a massive production but honestly this show is almost a scam in terms of value for money. Coachella isn't cheap to attend. Justins fee is massive. He's literally doing less than the bare minimum and still walking home with millions.

What he did can be a funny shtick for a short segment, and a minimalist stages can be great. But then at least back it up with great vocals or production elements throughout the rest of the show.
