But the part "thats your culture? I dont like it" is where it amplified what would otherwise have been just genuine ignorance and  a non event and turned it into something a little harder to defend. So she shouldnt have said that

I think that would make it worse but she didn't say it in that order you quoted
she said "I don't like it" before she heard it was their culture

It's ignorant but I don't think she meant it in a derogatory matter. Sounds like she was trying to be playful but failed terribly.

LadyxGaGa

where was this energy for her set last night so many people are willing to join in on gripes about frankly miscommunication from a huge stage to trying to discern conversation from hundreds of people in the crowd

yeahhh I’d just apologize for not knowing & move on.

(And for the folks taking issue with how she said “I don’t like it”, it’s okay if she doesn’t like it!! I have aural aversions to loud repetitive sounds myself. there are tons of cultural things that produce an “unusual” end result that make more sense once you learn the meaning)

lol its literally Coachella, and while I haven't been, I do know drug use is rampant there. I feel like it's definitely like lady goulash said where think there was zero malice, and even when the person said its my culture, I think given the context she probably assumed someone was being weird and funny and thought they were saying "its my culture" as like an excuse as opposed to being serious given its a musical festival...and you literally have people like Kylie Jenner who advertise how turnt they're gonna get at it. And she's literally on stage, her mind probably isn't so much in tune with genuinely interacting with fans  during that specific moment of the concert.

She could have apologized I agree, cause I can definitely see how it can come across as insensitive.

but...I think a lot of need to seriously touch grass. lol.

Yeah, but then, when the person said "its my culture" she couldve asked what culture or just ignore and keep going with the show instead of being "well I dont like it!" Interacting with the audience its okay but disrespecting the culture just cause she thought the person wasnt serious aint that cute.

Not trying to cancel her or anything, but its just weird.

Please. I'm not a fan of Sabrina. But I know that her entire persona and stage personality is one that's super unserious and tongue-in-cheek. This is the equivalent of taking spirit animals and calling someone "bitch" serious. The context matters. She wasn't even in a setting that would expose her to Arab culture  on a meaningful level nor in an Arab country. Everyone throws around the word disrespect and absolutely diminishes the meaning of interactions between humans. The fan did something that's not ordinary in American culture, did not outright state "it's an Arab cultural thing" or anything of the like, and said a generic phrase in an unserious setting. I don't blame the fan for expressing themselves or being nervous to talk to Sabrina but I think the bar for what is deemed disrespectful and especially controversial should be higher than this. I also can't wait to find out this scandal is perpetuated by bots.

I once saw an account who stanned Drake, Kanye, AND. Nicki drag Gaga once and that's when I realized that some people lack so much self awareness.

everyone here knows that I'm not going to make life easy.

Honestly this feels like something that would be a fabricated scandal for a Netflix movie. It's so stupid. Sabrina was very stupid and dismissive, of course. Also rude.

It also felt like such... Millennial banter. The type of unfunny stuff youtubers used to do a decade ago. I'm surprised she didn't punctuate it with a silly noise.

She did demean someone for expressing joy, but it wasn't done maliciously, only ignorantly. I would imagine it does feel particularly raw because of the recent BS the US is pulling in the Middle East. But when hasn't that been a thing
