I mean, she just clearly didn’t recognize what they were doing. It’s ignorant in a very literal sense (her not recognizing it as being a part of Arab culture) but not in the pejorative sense (she was intentionally trying to harm or discriminate against someone). Also saying “it’s my culture” is fairly vague and is the type of thing people would say ironically, so that’s probably why she didn’t really follow up or take it seriously. An apology is appropriate, but I also don’t think this is that deep.

Sure, but also continues by saying she don't like it? That is unnecessary :bradley:

It’s unnecessary, but I don’t think she realized they were being serious when they said “it’s my culture.” People say sh*t like that ironically all the time, so she probably just assumed they were taking the piss.

It still paints her in a weird way tho. She could've just ignored it, considering the audience screams/cheers every time at concerts.

I mean, we been knew since the Man’s Best Friend album cover controversy that Sabrina is very stuck up. She’s a white blonde gringa at the end of the day no matter how likable she was in the past.

Sure, but this person was also close enough to the stage that she could be heard clearly enough that they could carry on a conversation and it caught her ear because it was an unfamiliar sound. It’s not as if artists don’t respond to fans screaming during quieter moments in concerts, Gaga does it all the time during the piano section.

agree, definitely not a good remark but the setting is quiet and she's playing the piano. I'm sure she doesn't want the audience to yodel in that segment. People do have the right to be upset though, so she'll have to take the heat for it.

Yeah, but then, when the person said "its my culture" she couldve asked what culture or just ignore and keep going with the show instead of being "well I dont like it!" Interacting with the audience its okay but disrespecting the culture just cause she thought the person wasnt serious aint that cute.

Not trying to cancel her or anything, but its just weird.

Definitely ignorant but clearly zero malice. She was playing it for laughs. I'm sure the person she was speaking to wasn't offended at all but leave it to total strangers who spend too much time online to be offended on her behalf :vegas:

I think this is where she burried a hole for herself...

If it was just not recognizing the arab zalghoota so what? Ppl can be unaware of things and we could chalk off the criticism to people who are chronically online SJWs on the edge if their seats to criticize celebs on every trivial little mistake

But the part "thats your culture? I dont like it" is where it amplified what would otherwise have been just genuine ignorance and  a non event and turned it into something a little harder to defend. So she shouldnt have said that

Do I also think tho that the internet as usual is blowing it out of proportion? Absolutely

REALITY

Before opening this thread, I thought maybe she just misinterpreted a weird sound or image without any context, but knowing that the person doing it explicitly says "it's my culture" and she goes "I don't like that, it's weird" does make it more difficult.

I don't think she meant any harm by it, and like @Ladle Ghoulash said, people do say "it's my culture" ironically nowadays, so maybe that's what she thought. She should apologize, but I don't think this is damning.

In all fairness, to western ears, it IS a very odd sounding thing, so I’m not surprised it drew her attention and made her go “tf is that??”
