Officials say the move reflects a fundamental break with the organization’s principles, accusing Russia—a founding CIS member—of violating territorial integrity through its military actions in Ukraine and Georgia, as well as maintaining troops in Moldova’s breakaway Transnistria region. Once finalized, the move will end Moldova’s decades-long association with the CIS, signaling a clear shift in its foreign policy trajectory.
