No, I think you’ve heard the wrong information.

She wrote Perfect Celebrity early and wanted to go that grunge direction first. The working title was even Perfect Celebrity. She didn’t try scrap the album, it was still being made. See her Zane Lowe interview for that one.

Michael wanted her to go back to pop because she “didn’t have to try be something”.

She said she thought this view was “astute” and that she runs with a vision that really grabs her, like the grunge album, but may regret it. To me, that’s a bit disappointing she views her creative instinct that way. He was in the studio every day with her.

Michael himself pushed for HBDYWM to stay when she didn’t want it, because “the fans will like it”. Cool but it also happens to be the most Taylor song, and her reputation (pun) is very commercial.

I can share receipts if that helps.

"When asked for an example, the 14-time Grammy winner said: "There was one point where I almost turned the whole album into a grunge record." Gaga noted that there's "plenty of grunge" on Mayhem and said the moment of inspiration came after working on "Perfect Celebrity."

"I was like, 'Oh, everything should be this' and [Polansky] said, but there’s so much other amazing music that you’ve made, and it’s all you. You don’t have to try to be something.""

so this is literally what I just told you :awkney: you have the wrong story girl

Do you believe she has full control and autonomy over what she wants to do?

The teaser and handful of leaks so far make it sound quite like easy fan service.

Sure, I’d like Gaga to drop bops but she’s hinted for a while now that she’s been influenced to stop doing what she wants and go another angle.

If you listen to her interviews, the topic of Michael comes up, and she remarks how “well, I wanted to do X, but Michael was ‘supportive’ and instead suggested I do Y”. There’s a growing list of these influences.

And it’s for TDWP2, which itself is a cash grab on nostalgia.

I’d rather she take a deserved break and not get overworked. She’ll burn out otherwise.

If you really believe that lady gaga cant do or release whatever she wants at this point in time thats on you lmao.

Yeah, this is the interview where Gaga says that she made PC and then considered reworking the pre-existing material into a electro grunge album and then Michael encouraged her not to throw out the work that she had already done. She’s basically admitting with the “not trying to be something” argument that the grunge version of the record would’ve been trying to shoehorn pre-existing songs into an arrangement that wasn’t organic to how they were created and in a way that, I agree, is kind of stifling (albums must be inform, my sound/artistry must be uniform). I don’t get the sense that he’s trying to put her into a box. If anything, it sounds like the inverse: she felt tempted to put herself in a box and he encouraged her not to.
