Why I Don’t Like BOG

Ok so, lyrically the song is beautiful. I’m sure it’s one of the most important songs from the album to Gaga.

But I can’t seem to connect to it and like it because of one main reason: The chorus’s melody.

The same old melody of the modern pop era (ex: bad romance, judas, so am I, white mercedes, apt etc…).

It just lacks originality and creativity, and for me it cheapens the song and makes me feel like Gaga just slapped on the melody and called it a day.

It's just that many songs can have the same or similar chords. More and more producers are finding it harder to nail different chords. I'm not complaining about BOG, but I find KFL disjointed and therefore not my type

I don’t really mind the melody, my issue with BOG is this it’s written, there are too much analogies and metaphors, I kind wish she sang from a more intimate perspective 

I mean just go for the cliche and sing about how you found the man of your dreams and how you’d marry him even with a blade of grass

There’s a “Queen without a crown”, “fighting a battle with no shield”, “garden made of thorns”

If she hadn't told the story about the blade ring before the song came out, we would be so confused about what she meant by all that 

That being said, I don’t think it’s a bad song, I know many people dislike it but I think it’s okay, it’s definitely not up there with her best ballads but it’s not bad at all

Tbh I think it's a combination of what you explained (the chorus sounds way too familiar) and also the way she sings most parts of the song. She uses her voice in a way that I simply dont find appealing... Its like too nasal and almost like she is about to cry/scream (like a baby would???). I find it kind of irritating

It's just corny honestly  and if you're not the biggest fan of Michael (like moi ) you're not gonna like a song about their engagement

"This is the lawn of memories that I mourn" is straight up a reject Melanie Martinez lyric  

Definitely the weakest song on the album by a wide margin

I always think it's my least favorite MAYHEM track... until I listen to it again.

The verses feel a little heavy-handed but the chorus is beautiful (especially the intense final one)

See, I think lyrically and musically the verses are stronger. I like the melody on the chorus, but I think it’s too narrow and self-referential to be relatable.

I mean, not really lol. The core metaphor of the song is about using a blade of grass as a ring to symbolize their love, healing through their relationship, and being able to accept and face the pain of her past, so the idea that the grass in the law  (a place she looked out over chain smoking by herself) goes from a symbol of loneliness to a symbol of healing and reconciliation actually makes perfect sense. I get not liking it, tho.

Like I said in a previous thread, most people don't like it because it sounds like a Coldplay/Imagine Dragons type song (...corny). LOL

And if I'm being honest it's not something I listen to regularly, but I like it for how beautiful the instrumental sounds, and I find the blade of grass symbolism to be poetic. I get both sides.
