Out of curiosity, which album do you feel is Gaga’s most cohesive (music and messaging; clear consistency and integration of expressed concept x music composition / creative delivery)?

Chromatica is probably the most cohesive, followed by Mayhem and The Fame Monster.

Chromatica because it really is nearly the same song 13 times with some interludes.

Just goes to show that cohesion is a poor quality to use when you're judging an album.

Though special shout out to Mayhem for managing to sound cohesive while still putting so many different incredible sounds on display :bradley:

Id say Born This Way, Chromatica and Joanne. Maybe The Fame as well

ARTPOP and Mayhem definitely feel more random to me

Im not super crazy on Chromatica myself either tbh, almost none of my top 20 Gaga songs are from that album

But all songs sounding the same would not be one of my criticisms of it. In fact thats one of the few weaknesses I dare say none of her albums have :legend:

Edit: The only 3 songs that at least gives simmilar vibes to eachother to me is Rain On Me > Free Woman > 1000 doves

Even then, those 3 sound dont sound the same to me per say, they just gives simmilar vibes. And then the rest of the album is definitely all different

People hating on Chromatica gurl that's reductive.

I would say TFM, Chromatica and Mayhem, which happen to be her three best albums woops

Gaga albums havw always been both chaotic and cohesive imo. I think its confused so many critics and audience members over time. Real ones know all of these are cohesive in their own way.

Born This Way is amazing hands down. Gaga and DJWS.

It would probably be Chromatica because the whole album sounds so neutered and hollow, but I'm not about to give it any accolades, so I voted BTW. Then Mayhem, but that's a distant third place. TF, TFM, ARTPOP, and Joanne are so discombobulated.

It's probably just 'cause I've played with the multitracks a lot and I'd say it feels like nearly every sound, barring the main melodies, fell out of the same 2015 sample folder :messga:

The Fame has some of the same issues (for example, Just Dance and Money Honey have the exact same percussion and RedOne's samples and signatures are every-goddamn-where) but it's far more varied from start to finish both sonically and genre wise.

There's this sort of...idk, "bored max entropy" that Chromatica hits literally halfway through Alice and it just doesn't break up for the entire album. In other words, it's an album that suffers heat death before you even get to the second song.

It definitely needed more variation, actual ballads, and some real heat to flesh out the good ideas that suffered due to the poor execution.

But it's cohesive so :poot:
