Not separating art from artist doesn’t mean rejecting everything, it just means being selective in cases where harm is clear. It’s not about obsessively filtering every piece of media, it’s about having boundaries when harm is clear and ongoing.

People already do this with brands and public figures all the time and still enjoy life just fine. There’s more than enough art out there to choose from, you’re not losing enjoyment, you’re just choosing what you’re comfortable supporting.

Well, it is just as a huge exaggeration to say watching this show makes you transfobe because of what JK said, while hundreds of others are working on this show to make it the best they can. If people watching, which will be millions of people worldwide, from young children to adults who grew up with Harry Potter are transfobe already, what does is make the actor, cameraman, VFX artists, and other crew?

 

People are allowed to decide for themselves if they want to watch this, for whatever reason they want to. That does not automatically make them agree with Rowlings views. There is a very clear separation. We might not agree, but I will not remain silent while people who do not know me are calling me very serious names, because I am going to watch a TV show that millions of people are going to watch. And just to be clear, I have trans friends, who I will support always, and even most of them are going to watch this show.

literally nobody said that, did you make this up on your own? Did you misread things?

the critique have always been that by supporting her stuffs these days will mean helping her to continue her harmful agenda because when the show is a success, she will get extension on her influence and income to fund those things.

The separation is between being able to enjoy something and supporting all the hundreds of people working on it, but at the same time not agreeing with Rowling. 

And dont tell me everything you do or buy, from whatever company or artist, you first do a thorough background check to see if no one connected to it has every done or said anything you disagree with…

The ... roll out? is very weird... why the hell are we getting behind the scenes from a show coming out in almost 9 months, that won't even be uploaded all at once. 

I think the actors aren't getting enough shame, watching a tv show is one thing, applying to be in it, your life revolving around it for years, mama you're giving trash! Even if they said "I don't agree with JK" ... ok?? I don't agree with Trump so I'm not applying to work for him. Excluding the children, core trio**

So there's no seperation? 

You're just ignoring it. 

Seperation is defined as having a clear gap between 2 or more things. Not you sticking your fingers in your ears and going "lalala". 

As for your second point - no one is asking you to do a background check.

Background checks are designed to identify information the person has not revealed/tried to obscure. 

JK Rowling is not someone with skeletons in the closet yet to come out. She's not someone with historical allegations that have been brushed under the carpet. She's not someone with 1 dodgy tweet from 15+ years ago. 

She is someone who has consistently used her public platform for a number of years as a tool to promote transphobia and far-right activists. She has not been secretly funding causes, or making anonymous donations. She has done it loudly and without cover. 

No one is asking you to do a background check. Because there's nothing to go digging for. It is there and readily accessible, the only way to not know about it is to actively not engage with JK Rowling & Harry Potter. 

You aren't being asked to do homework and research before choosing to watch a TV show/read a boom. Its a total falsehood of an argument. No one is asking you for psychic analysis of the media you consume to assess if something is being hidden. We're just saying - why are you choosing to engage with and actively fund someone who has for nearly a decade now been using those funds to promote bigotry and who has publicly and loudly aligned herself repeatedly with alt-right/nazi supporting groups & individuals.

You best believe they'll milk the **** out of it before it premieres... They absolutely did the same with the movies, to the point where there wasn't a single scene that had not been teased through trailers or promo pictures by the time they came out.

Their marketing budget is probably as big as the series'.

This show is probably going to be like the biggest success HBO gets and damn the amount of money this is about to make for the next decade. Such a shame it’s attached to a horrible author and her shitty views. 

I’m a casual fan of the movies, haven’t even watched all of them but a show with 8-10 episodes for each book is more than enough to spread out the whole story. I will be watching but not on HBO.
