I think folks criticising the variants stuff need to use correct language if they dont want people to argue with them.

Its not fraud. Fraudulent means fake, like the fake streams the kpop farms make.

Taylor's strategy isnt fraud because the sales are legitimate.

The issue is they are exploitative. The massmarket production vinyl colours etc on fomo sales is blatant exploitation.

As for the voices notes thing - yeah its stupid. But I dont think the "heres a random CD with a voicenote bonus track for 24 hours" is exploitative. The people who buy those are just stupid.

They will both be remembered for very long in very different ways.

Taylor is THE artist "for little girls." Who do little girls like? Taylor Swift. She is THE answer. No one else really has that, Bieber used to. She is very very successful. She doesn't necessarily make big artistic impact but she makes cultural impact. Spotify paying artists, owning masters, rerecording, the Kanye stuff, her fans being obsessed, variants, etc. Taylor's the Beatles.

Gaga will be remembered as an artist, a performer, fashion icon, art icon, someone who pushed boundaries and inspired millions while doing so. People didn't know if she was a man, if she was 40 years old, why does she wear that, etc etc. She created questions. She has also created timeless music, songs that define a generation, talent that is palpable whenever she performs. Gaga's Madonna.

I think both will remain icons as both have massive, unwavering fan bases. Taylor has yet to fall off and commercially continues to be more successful (granted yes, she cheats the system and exploits her fans) than Gaga and I think that will continue, the swiftie moms will indoctrinate their little girls and the fanaticism will go on lol :saladga: but gaga is proven to be an absolute multifaceted, vers ™️ entertainment legend and the gay community of all ages will prop her up til her last day on earth and beyond

As a marketing major, I can 100% confirm it is, infact, explotative.

If you knew some of the methods music marketing agencies were using 10 years ago with social media you'd be appalled. Now, it's pretty much a requirement that you have to be apolitical or a sociopath to genuinely be successful in music marketing.

I'm not even talking about Taylor here (although there is literally no possible way at this point in her career that she does not have the 51% say at the end of the day).

But the marketing agencies literally run algorithms on young children/teens/young adults who just had a parent die and feed them a suggested sound from an album that is melancholy to get them to relate.

In one of my classes we literally studied how Justin Bieber's Ghost song was promoted using people's data encryptions related to funeral homes, caskets, and obituaries.

Yall don't know how heartless it is.

So 100% you can bet Taylor's team is engineering on a level and a budget you have no idea that is meticulous at figuring out how, when, and where to get into the brains of the demographics that follow her.

Honestly most album sales have nothing to do with the artwork and more to do with the qualities of the fanbases....people don't think about that enough. Taylor's fanbase is one of the most easy to manipulate. It's actually a compliment to Gaga that she had ups and downs because it shows her fans are more cynical, smarter, and have a higher benchmark for popular music. :ohwell:
