princedeeblebleble 3,128
Dancing in circles cause I feel like she can't decide if she wants to do a sexy reggae song or country, and the random noises across the song kinda sound like donkeys Fashion 2009, the way she pronounces the designer names irks me and it sounds like a parody drag song, still a slay! Teeth, love the song but its kinda a very bizarre way to finish off TFM.

Especially since we don't know the context/meaning behind the lyrics. It gave me this this weird heavy feeling the first time I heard it so I don't really listen to it ever. I definitely get the sense it’s about her early career sexual trauma. We have forgotten our public MANNERS

I think so too the lyrics definitely point towards that but it's strange because the one *him* that people say did it produced it which is confusing. If Fusari was her abuser, there’s still a chance that her writing it and producing it with him was almost a way of normalizing what happened between them as being a turbulent romance as opposed to a sexually abusive dynamic. “They never really knew…how to do it with the safety off the trigger” almost justifies his actions by internalizing the toxicity herself (“we both got a bit out of control because we don’t know how to control our passion”), which is an understandable mindset for a victim who feels trapped by their abuser, tbh. I also cant help but make the association between the gun metaphor in Trigger and the gun metaphor in Replay (which is obviously more explicitly about sexual trauma and PTSD). We’ll probably never know for sure, though. Edited April 8 by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS

I thought you were one of us ARTPOP is frontloaded and a mixed bag, imo. I don’t agree that the entirety is bad like MountainMonster said (some of it is great), but I do think that some of its efforts to be edgier feel a bit try hard and cheesy in a bad way (not the biggest Donatella, MJH, or GUY fan, for example). We’ll probably never know for sure, though. I can see why you would think that and it does make sense but I think that Gaga was aware of it back then and knew it was wrong (MTN video, some hints in interviews in 2010/11, Swine) and when Gaga addressed it back then in her way she always said "I'm not sure if I want to reveal that or make it explicit in my music because I have lots of young fans I feel responsible for and because it will most likely overshadow other things and be the thing people talk about when they talk/think about me". So it seemed she was aware back then that it was wrong and it is most likely why she broke up with him when she did. But she also said a few times when it first happened she tried to rationalize it or find a way to excuse it or blame herself so you could be right. I guess we may never know I just find it odd that he's the producer on it. I mean Gaga and him produced some other songs around that time with darker subjects but that one is the darkest easily. The concept of not liking G.U.Y or Donatella, 2 camp masterpieces Also what is the "edgy" part of ARTPOP? Edited April 8 by imogen2133

Yeah, not a huge fan of the failed LG/BR reheat (GUY) or some of the sloppiest verses she’s written in her career (Donatella). Cute bops in their own right, fairly forgettable in her broader catalogue. I already highlighted the songs where I think she was trying to be edgy/cheekily subversive in my original post.
