Rowling had already sold the rights. When she initially sold them she hung onto a lot of control over how Harry Potter as a franchise would be handled (as any artist should). She approved Fantastic Beasts, which flopped, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is an ego thing so she can say the world she built is still relevant Having a black Snape makes a lot less sense when you look at what his character goes through throughout the books. Poor, greasy, gets hung on a tree by James, etc. Being mindful of diversity and wanting to include it is amazing and as it should be but he's the only character associated with black stereotypes. It counteracts the entire idea of diversity in stories. Hermione, McGonagall, Dumbledore, etc could have all been black and it would have been okay. Hermione as a black character could have elevated the role of PoC in films so much better than a grey character like Snape that not only had a very clear description written out but also stereotypes commonly used to put down black people. And might I add that in the first book Snape is accused by Harry of attempting to steal the philosophers stone and Harry's rationale was "just a feeling". The reason the Brits can claim ignorance and deny being racist is because of America's blatant racism. It's the entire idea of racism reshaped. "We're not them, we don't do x y z" to excuse poor behavior and covert racism. Yeah I agree with all of this, the funny thing always has been as well is that she had to put her name on the books as JK to make male readers and critics assume she was a male author to get ahead and even now she prefers to be called JK and not Joanne by outlets and media- almost like someone’s chosen name and identity means something huh? All I’ve personally seen is racist views as the only complaint about Snape and then when you ask them why they say it’s “not accurate to the source material” when it’s literally a made up world with no outright descriptions of any characters race, so much so that JK made up random facts like Dumbledore being gay years after the final book came out just to combat the narrative that she used racial and other stereotypes for other characters like the elves being Jewish people, the name choices for South Asian characters and more. As a British person it always makes me cringe when I see how blind and selective we are with what “we” count as racism. For example my grandmother used to use P slur for any none white person (which in of itself as a massive generalisation and ignorant) but she said to us she wasn’t racist because she “didnt hate them” but brits forget that bias is racism, stereotypes are racism and preference is also racism. Calling a Chinese takeaway a ch*nk*es is still common place sadly as is calling a convenience store a p*ki shop. specifically here in the north east sadly. Almost all of our councils are expected to become Reform councils too, my local council for example is already and has already defunded massive things for trans and other LGBTQ+ people in the local area. TLDR; Most HP fans are British and too uncultured or uneducated because of how our culture here handles racism and other things. So I think the show will STILL be successful sadly. There's just no way to condense such massive books into 2,5 hour features. When it comes to this show, I have greater hopes and anticipation for the second half of the series. oh for sure although the things they added in to the #6 movie that just didn't happen and don't even make sense, whilst missing out the most interesting parts of the book had me livid I found the 4th and 5th movies great in comparison, they used to be my favourites.. 6 was the only time after watching i was left disappointed lmao

If anything, it's the book that would have benefited most from a 2 part film rather than Deathly Hallows. 1

KennyRichie 2,062
All your death wishes and harsh comments toward people who are simply interested in this are only making everyone more curious and even more willing to watch it. I also don’t think anyone should be attacked for what they choose to watch. We all care about trans issues and their importance, but turning against each other doesn’t help anyone. I’m just sharing my perspective 1
Luv u Sum 2,424
god i hate so much that JK will profit from this. harry potter has always been such a comfort franchise for me and as a trans person myself its such an ugh thing. but that aside this doesnt really look that good to me..... the films have already adapted this so beautifully and i truly think the first movie is so perfect in its depiction of childhood wonder and i dont see that at all here. its so dull..... and the casting still really frustrates me because they made some very strange decisions there

Taking the step away from HP was tough, really, it’s more than nostalgia, it was a safe place during difficult times for me. But I did it, as a gay person, as an activist, as an activist who puts trans rights before my gay rights. My post was simply me feeling broken that no matter what we will do, these horrible people will continue to be rich and many people, including allies and members of our community , will support their products. I’m boycotting too much honestly, it’s tough but I just can’t support bad people .. never ask me what happened on february 13th, 2026

When I die, they world will move forward, my small, very small, impact, would be forgotten, and these assholes will continue to be rich. One person making a very small impact matters a very little bit. Then that person gets 2 of their friends with similar morals to make the same small impact. Then those 2 friends get 2 more people each to do the same and so on until that impact isn't so small anymore. We're almost nothing alone! That's why community is so important. Not just as a concept or thought but as a tangible, living thing 🌈 This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.
