PartySick 172,972
Democrat Emily Gregory, a first-time candidate, defeated Trump-backed Republican Jon Maples in a race for the open Florida District 87 state House seat. The result is a reversal from 2024, when a Republican won the district by 19 percentage points. (Trump himself won the district by 11 points in 2024). Democrats have performed well in special elections during Trump's second term, and Gregory's victory could indicate momentum for the party heading into this year's congressional midterm elections. PartySick 172,972
Trump is officially represented by a Democrat in the Florida congress And if we have anything to say about it, he'll be represented by a Democrat in the US Senate after this year as well Though I still wanna raise the alarm bells for Dems 'cause these people are not voting FOR Democrats, they're voting AGAINST Trump and MAGA. "Blue wave" is a misnomer. Every election since 2016 has simply been a "change election". When Dems take the house (and potentially the senate) they have to do a sh*t ton of work to make sure we don't get "changed" and lose congress and the presidency in 2028. Until we abandon the two party system, and give more votes to people like Mamdani, we will not achieve true change. Obviously what is happening now is good regardless, but we will need more to get the real progress we need. he/him/his

You never know. Polls are hypothetical rn 'cause primaries haven't been sorted but head to heads with the front runners have the Republican candidate up by like 5-8% If we're swinging a GOP+19/Trump+11 district to a Democratic win? I mean... It's a heavy lift but absolutely possible. Whimsical bitch

The challenge right now is 2026 and re-taking the House (and maybe Senate) in the face of whatever incredible s--t Trump/Johnson/Scotus try to pull ... and it WILL be incredible.
