Here we go again…

I’ll admit I haven’t read all of Tolkien’s work, but even then, the backlash to Rings of Power felt over the top. A lot of fans complained that it didn’t strictly follow Tolkien or called it “woke” because of Galadriel’s portrayal and the inclusion of more diverse characters. Honestly, I thought it was a great show—I was entertained the whole way through, especially as someone who loves the original LOTR films.

I recently started reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and I was surprised by how much was changed or left out in the movies. Yet those films are widely considered masterpieces, and no one criticizes them the same way. That’s why some of the outrage around Rings of Power feels excessive. For most people who’ve only seen the films, the show is still very enjoyable.

The reality is, Tolkien isn’t for everyone. His writing can be dense, highly descriptive, and filled with songs and poems, which can slow the pacing. For many people, getting through the books is a big commitment—and that’s okay.

Rant aside, I am excited about the upcoming projects. I just hope people give them a fair shot instead of immediately tearing them down.

And for what it’s worth, Stephen Colbert is a huge LOTR fan, so I’m optimistic he’ll do a great job.

Middle Earth history and lore is so special and rich, I’m really excited for whats to come.

can't they just give him a 30 second cameo in The Rings of Power or something :franminervini:

but I appreciate the fact that this is probably his lifelong dream and he is achieving it.

I absolutely LOVE LOTR, and I’m glad Colbert is a huge fan and wants to invest in it but idk sometimes fans of media have awful fan theories or ideas so I hope it’s gonna be good.

id rather a fan helm it than a random though

Not crazy about the synopsis, but Colbert might be the biggest living Tolkien expert alive, so I would say this project is in pretty safe hands. These days, it's actually refreshing to see the most qualified guy get the job.

Tolkien had started a LOTR sequel that never really materialized, it was called The New Shadow and I'm wondering if this might have anything to do with it.
