When is corny boots complimentary?

I can appreciate good camp and I think Gaga is often corny in a sincere way that I think often works (Hair, Bad Kids, Highway Unicorn), but GUY is corny in a way I find off putting (self-serious, not especially clever but clearly trying to be, too guarded and calculated to let sincere much sincerity shine through)

Even tho I love CSTH, agreed that KFL is an absolute smash 🤝

Kill for Love is such an incredible song, I love every single second of it. I would like Can't Stop The High if it didn't have an underwhelming chorus.

Honestly, same. The instrumental is phenomenal, every second is infectious, the vocals are excellent, and don’t even get me started on the outro…

In another timeline, it’s a smash on the radio tbh

Unfortunately as a brazilian this song reminds me of the news every single time I laugh out loud

Oh, I see your POV on the song (although, obvs, I stand ten-down on G.U.Y.‘s contextual integrity); I was just asking when “corny boots” would be considered complimentary in conversation

Probably not often, but I know I’ve used corny affectionately to describe her music (specifically when talking to that user), so that’s why I clarified lol

Both songs give me an adrenaline rush (really, a big standard I measure a lot of her songs against), but CSTH just sends it there. The imagery is much clearer in the lyrics, the electric guitars and intensity of the drums make my heart race, the dueling vocals in a Bowie-esque register and her falsetto delivery are simply divine, and that outro aligns sonically and thematically with a lot of songs on Mayhem (almost as if the song unravels/gets derailed by the end, non-derivatively). I’ll give Zedd credit: he produced one of her best instrumentals, and while G.U.Y. incorporates a lot of humor, it does sacrifice its edge with some of the questionable wordplay. That said, G.U.Y.’s bridge is phenomenal.

Thank you … there’s the rush … the imagery, the register and delivery … see how fun liner notes can be when we use our pop-music-will-never-be-low-brow prose, and exercise reciprocity in regard to the records at hand (G.U.Y. built that phenomenal bridge solely so it could get over the tears it knew it would cry when you said CSTH’s vocal runs “alone” mopped its being in its entirety all these years later) … CSTH feels like a genuine underscore, like it needle drops into pure cinematic
