PEOPLE cannot queerbait, queerbaiting is target and other companies releasing their basic pride merch every year or trying to appeal to the LGBTQ community. Accusing people of queerbaiting only harms members of the community and reinforce society norms and expectations. One could argue being an artist is their "brand" or "product" but there's no way to actually prove that's what's actually happening, nor would it make much sense since Harry Styles main demographic has always been straight women lol If it's part of your selling point as artist, then is queerbaiting.

I said it was perfect marketing timing years ago on this forum and I was dragged as some hater forcing a coming out, reducing gender expression to clichés etc like if the dude was just living his truth with me being a naysayer... Since that the formula was repeated again and again so maybe folks will see my point about cynism and exploitation of queerness. Roughhouse Dandy 13,215
So many thoughts about this... My first reaction was to agree about real people not being able to queerbait, but a point was definitely made about him only wheeling out the homoeroticism when he has something to sell. Then I wanted to say that people need to come out (if they are closeted in the first place) at the time they feel is right without pressure, but I don't know how I really feel about that anymore either. Queer people in the industry are still mistreated today. However, if you're already successful, have more money than God, and have been established for a long time?? Maybe as a public figure you *do* have a sort of responsibility to represent and put some skin in the game. Especially in a time like this and especially if you're using your perceived queerness to get attention and money. There does come a time where you should answer the question one way or another. But idk. Something I'm gonna have to keep thinking on. Edited March 15 by Roughhouse Dandy This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

Like Marvel Comics is releasing every year a Pride issue with collection of LGBTQ+ pride stories and introducing new characters though these issues.. but at the same time during the rest of the year they are not hiding their LGBTQ+ characters, they are always there, even the kisses, the sex, their struggles.. they are part of the stories, there's even a trans-hero group, so for me Marvel is not queerbaiting but they have been helping the LGBTQ+ cause, even when it was not cool, in 1982 they introduce Arnie Roth, Captain America gay friend who was murdered for being gay. But then we have Netflix that queerbaiting for years, they will put hot pics of shirtless guy in the thumbnails, they will add non-LGBTQ+ shows to the LGBTQ+ collections, just because there is one irrelevant LGBTQ+ character and usually again the thumbnail is of a hot shirtless guy... and then they will cancel LGBTQ+ shows without even blinking. And last thing, I think Harry knows what his doing, many straight women are lusting for hot gays making out, just like many straight guys are lusting for hot lesbians, so this queerbaiting is exactly for THIS demographic in some sense. Totally agree on the difference between those companies. But I just don't like labeling people or dismissing them as queerbaiting because there's just no way to actually prove that really. I've seen non famous straight guys or women get accused of queerbaiting because they are within queer friend groups, which is insane to me, the word queerbaiting getting thrown around like that reinforces a stigma and the word kind of begins to lose meaning. accusing artists of it doesn't help anything and can make it worse imo, especially in an era where homophobia and bigotry continues to get worse. Gaga kissed women on tv and music videos, when often over the years have we seen her with female partners/fiance's? Does she wear regular clothes when she's not expecting cameras but often dress up crazy when she has something to promote? 2

Gaga has openly and plainly talked about her sexuality through her career though. And fashion is theatre; sexual orientation is an aspect of one's existence. Why would you expect Gaga to be seen with a female partner/ fiancé when she always mentioned physical attractions toward women but never romantic ones? She did mention her love and attirance with men tho. Gaga doesn't play with rumors right when she has stuffs to promote like Styles, she stated she liked banging girls while loving men instead of cultivating some marketing mystery for buzz. She doesn't use queerness as a promotional tool basically. 33 minutes ago, Defmix100 said: Does she wear regular clothes when she's not expecting cameras but often dress up crazy when she has something to promote? I wasn't talking about regular VS "crazy" tho. I was talking about regular bro clothes in your daily life switched for gay-coded ( for the masses at least ) looks for promo since queer rumors gives you attention. Gaga doesn't reserve her "queerest" looks to promo cause, again, she doesn't use queerness as a promo tool. She had those stache on while in her hotel room doing an already sold out tour lol. She had those so-called biker lesbian looks between eras just like she did Joe calderone on TV during promo. It's just her personality, not a gimmick she resorted to for bigger sales at convenient moments. When she was saying " I make gay music, my shows are gay" back in 2008 she meant it! The likes of your Kit Harringtons etc shouldn't be forced out. Their sexuality being kept private can simply be due to wanting privacy etc. The people who should face pressure and stigma and even direct outing are the likes of Lindsay Graham/Aaron Schock etc. The people who actively hurt our community and deliberately make it more dangerous for LGBT folks while living it up in their private lives. Equally, I think those gay4pays who are openly MAGA etc should have their gay4pay activities exposed to their MAGA friends & family. Don't profit off of us if you don't support us. I'm relating what you said, if Harry has only ever been seen with girlfriends (I don't follow his career at all so I'm assuming that's true) that does not mean he can't be physically attracted towards men but romantically attracted towards women. A music video is a promotional tool, Gaga kissed a woman in the video promoting her single, she has 100% right to do that but it cancels out saying she hasn't use it in marketing/promotion. I don't care if she does it, I don't care if Harry does it, it obviously gets people talking and there's been allegations of both using it for clout but only they themselves know for sure. And obviously gaga wears regular clothes we've seen it many times, there's nothing wrong with that.
