TheFrenchGuy 3,852
Vanish is an absolutely gorgeous song and I love it dearly but Speechless is her best ballad IMO. An absolute classic. 2 1 2

Having spent five hours in Gaga's company today, NME has been seduced into saying exactly what Gaga wants to hear. It's partly because we don't want her to burst into tears. Maybe this is why nobody prepared her for the 'Born This Way' backlash. But the point does stand: if you like to put your musicians into little boxes, Gaga must be deeply troubled. "That's RIGHT!" she roars. "They want me to admit to something that isn't real, to a f—ing artifice. Gosh that would be f—ing exhausting. Let me tell you something. If you f—ing rip my hairbow and my wig off my f—ing head, my shoes, my bra, every single thing on my body, and you throw me on a piano with a microphone, I will f—ing make you cry. Nobody knows the f—ing bravery it took for me to be me with this f—ing media. All of these interviews. All of these questions. I could have just woken up one day and put out my music in T-shirts and jeans and I never did that once. I endlessly found myself shouting, 'I am not full of s–t! Are you?'."

MACATL 1,894
Speechless will always have my heart. VIY is amazing and I love it, but Speechless stands alone in her catalog. It’s a true rock ballad and has echos of the Beatles, Queen, Billy Joel and Elton John all through it. It will always baffle me that it wasn’t released to dominate the airwaves.
Nemo 4,364
Speechless is... why I love her, if I had to narrow it down to one thing. 2
Sneaky Oliver 22,712
This is hard, I really like Speechless lyrics better but VIY lyrics are more relatable, sonically I think VIY wins
steven 6,362
Speechless sounds very demoish compared to VIY now
Ziggy 12,989
Tricky but speechless. The lyrics are a perfect balance of idiosyncratic and general. James Dean glossy eyes, bubble dreams, etc. VIY is a gorgeous song, too, but if I’m splitting hairs, lyrics are where speechless outshines it, though the concept of loving someone so much you want to vanish into them is beautiful. I love it as an aesthetic choice because I feel like a lot of modern pop production doesn’t let vocals shine, but it literally sounds like someone singing in their garage with a small PA system Edited 3 hours ago by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS
