She's not used orange yet, but red she has and she wouldn't have wanted to double up with BTW: TF: Blue & silver TFM: Black & white BTW: Black & red ARTPOP: Pink and blue Joanne: Pastel pink & pastel blue Chromatica: Coral & green (I know people will say black & pink here, but the tour colours and lots of the album branding was coral and green) Harlequin: Mint & red Mayhem: Black & orange The main colours she's yet to use is yellow and purple so my theory is her next era will include either of those. You may be right. She’s already alluded to these two colours together in SOAM: “Hard to be the yellow in a purple sky” so they’ve crossed her mind. 1
monstertoronto 10,991
I think as @nATAH illustrated over most other albums, she picks an initial color scheme for the album, and then when the tour hits she has brand new inspirations and the colors follow her new inspirations. A lot of people were expecting the hot pink and green sci fi vibes of Chromatica’s album cover and early photo shoots, with Gaga in brightly coloured costumes on different planets. But for the tour she went brutalist stage, no space, and much darker palette. For Mayhem the orange and black was a fun new color combo for her. And she’s indicated she wasn’t really thinking about a tour when the album launched. When she did create the tour later, she went with the Alice in wonder-ish duelling personas theme and it made sense to have a red queen and a white waif for this theme (shades of the Queen of Hearts and the White Queen in wonderland). The red and black colour theme works much better for the tour theme. So the colors follow her evolving inspirations.

It’s really cool how we get to see into her mind that way. I know Gaga doesn’t like to repeat herself, and I’m not asking her to. I like how innovative and intentional she is. But I am interested in her continuing to explore horror/metal goth, as well as more Baroque/operatic goth, in the future. MAYHEM’s original aesthetic AND its tour were top-tier (i.e., sick AF). At the risk of sounding like I’ve never been outside, “there are so many ways to be ‘goth.’” If anyone here has expertise on these types of topics (e.g., goth subculture, gothic architecture, how they’re related and different, etc.), I’d love to see more threads on it! (Although, maybe they already happened, as I took a hiatus from Gaga Daily before my MAYHEM show to avoid as many spoilers as possible. 😅) Edited Monday at 11:49 AM by Gaga Scholar "The truth is..." --L. Idk why but the thought of gaga doing a lilac/purple and yellow era sounds so ethereal to me. Like elemental, nature, almost have images of katys prism album cover (I mean that as a compliment) - it would be a stark contrast to the mayhem visuals but gaga could totally so like a swinging 60s type vibe, with upbeat funky pop music and a yellow and purple aesthetic. I would live!!! Edited Monday at 12:57 PM by liamgaga

Do you have any theories as to why she seemingly shifted from orange to red in the marketing during the era? Hmm, I'm not sure. I think she always wanted Mayhem to be 'darker' so black was always included but I think the secondary colour was a mixture of red and orange and she's used both throughout. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised when the album cover came with the billboards and Mayhem was written in orange...I literally think the only reason she went there was because she'd already used black/red combo for BTW. I love the orange though and it worked so well with the Coachella branding too. You're right though, there's a LOT of red in the era (particularly with the tour themes), and it wouldn't have been as striking, I dont think, if they'd gone with orange vs black in the Art of Personal chaos.

I would live!!! Purple would be an easy one for her to include and she's already used it a few times throughout Mayhem even. But I think yellow would be a challenge. If she goes with yellow & black it verges into looking like a bumble bee, and I just can't see her going with two bright colours. Plus yellow is associated with happiness and Gaga's albums are usually filled with darker themes Technically she's used variations on yellow before (ASIB colours were gold & white, and L4S was soft yellow and soft pink), but not for her own 'LG' albums. The only other major colour i didnt mention obviously is brown, but I can't see her going there. Maybe next she'll combine two colours she's already used? Like blue/green mix or pink/red??
