nodandsmile 11,577
"Aperture" was truly disappointing, I really hope it's the weakest off the album

Idefix1999 285
Aperture really grew on me. I only happened to like a handful of songs from his previous albums, but nevertheless I will give this album a chance. Hopefully, there is more Disco than the title suggests.

Delulu 2,006
I liked Apeture on first listen and the video and performance only made it better so I was excited to hear the album, here are my first track by track thoughts on first listen. American Girls sonically is very my cup of tea, it’s this synth-pop Tame Impala / Coldplay vibe but more… sophisticated? I like it but it’s a little forgettable and a little too repetitive. The transition to Ready, Steady, Go! is very clean. The song has this very catchy infectious bass melody. The dirty feet lyric rubbed me the wrong way but it might just be Benny Blanco’s recent footgate. I love the distorted synths & vocals on the chorus. The bridge and outro are repeating the title multiple times ala Party 4 You but the intrumental changes troughout so it doesn’t feel long at all. Are You Listening Yet has the most intriguing lyrics so far (excluding Apeture) and the production is a bit more upbeat and hype, but I’m getting tired of the song’s structures starting with 2 verses. The production is giving rock-ish Coldplay / Tame Impala again but I’m into it. Also has a repetitive outro like the last track. Taste Back’s production and melodies are VERY True Romance by Charli XCX. The overall vibe i’m getting at this point is indie club music. I don’t know who the track is about since I don’t follow him as a person but I’m kinda intrigued rn. The intro to The Waiting Game is also giving HEEEAVY True Romance vibes. I’m LOVING the synths and the lyrics on this one. This track is crying for a video and single treatment. It’s relatable, we’ve probably all been in this situation. Felt really short tho. The title of Season 2 Weight Loss scares me but the track once again opens up reheating True Romance Charli’s nachos. The drums on the chorus are a bit chaotic but I like them. The verses are stronger tho, love the bridge. The lyrics confuse me like what is this song about??? The title is so random to me like it adds nothing to the song for not being a lyric. Coming Up Roses is a ballad. The vocals are GREAT. The melodies and the lyrics too. A great love song. The strings in the bridge are GORGEOUS. Pop is the obvious single choice and you can tell 5 seconds in. The best track for me so far. He uses his upper register on the chorus and it’s the most hype track so far. Deserves a video for sure. The bass in the bridge is so good! Dance No More starts off strong but loses me on the chorus honestly. Production is great tho, as is it on the whole album so far. Paint By Numbers as the second ballad has great vocals, feels like more of an interlude tho. ‘Oh, what a gift it is to be an artist, but it’s nothing to do with me.’ is a great lyric and I get why he wanted to put it as Track 1 - it does feel like an intro. Carla’s Song is good but kind of forgettable imo tho it has great moments, production (especially synths & drums). Overall a great album on first listen but I don’t think I’ll come back to half of these songs. Pop is definitely a stand out on the record. f*** u pop music
