Canada Supports USA & Israel Attacks On Iran

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Saturday that Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, calling the country “the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East” and citing its human rights record.

Speaking in Mumbai, where he is leading a trade delegation, Carney urged Canadians in Iran to shelter in place.

“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security,” he said.

Carney added he did not see Canada getting involved in the escalation: “We have not been party to the military buildup to this, or the military planning of this. So it is not envisioned that we would be part of it moving forward.”

He said Canada has consistently called on the Iranian regime to end its nuclear program — including at the G7 Summit Ottawa hosted last summer in Kananaskis, Alberta — and noted that Canada has listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group.

The prime minister expressed Canada’s support for the Iranian people, and also backed Israel’s role in the strikes: “And we reaffirm Israel’s right to defend itself.”

For a couple reasons.

1. If other nations can have nukes, why not Iran? Why do we get to decide what they do with their resources and research? Why do we get to pick and choose which nations have the ability to threaten mutually assured destruction as a defense mechanism?

2. NO NATIONS SHOULD HAVE NUKES.

3. Why does the US/Israel get to police the world the way they do? I'd have a different stance if we were ACTUALLY taking out bad leaders and helping Iran (or whoever else) build a functional representative democracy with leadership that serves the people but we DON'T do that. We replace bad guys that hate us with bad guys that like us.

4. It's almost like we had a whole Iran nuclear deal ten years ago that benefitted Iran diplomatically and the US and Israel's security. Of course, Israel's f*ckass leader didn't like that deal 'cause he'd rather destroy Iran than coexist with it so Trump cucked for him the moment he won in 2016.

5. Iran is nowhere f*cking close to getting a nuke and it's such a tired scare tactic.

Makes me wanna rip my hair out.

I'm sick of my tax dollars going towards dropping bombs on elementary schools rather than fixing the roads I drive on or paying for my medical care or any of the other thousands of things we could be using that money for.

On the (potentially) more positive side, a lot of Iranians, esp. the diaspora are pretty thankful. Regardless of Israel’s involvement. 

It’s still early days but it could be significant in freeing Iran, especially the women. 

The realistic problem with nukes is that getting existing powers to surrender them is impossible. It sucks but there just isn’t a way to get Russia or China to drop their nukes and even if western countries do, they’d just put areas like Taiwan and Eastern Europe in more danger.

Iran is a party to the NPT. For all the talk about this 'breaking international law' (which it does), Iran developing a nuclear weapon would do the same. Other countries that have developed their own nuclear weapons, including Israel, South Africa, India and Pakistan either didn't sign or withdrew from the NPT.

Which leads me to believe that if Iran truly had the intention of developing nuclear weapons, they could easily withdraw. They get sanctioned regardless. They get bombed regardless. Now, their regime gets toppled regardless.

To be fair, no nation has withdrawn since North Korea (which is the only state to date to withdraw), and they had significantly weaker nuclear capacity than Iran does. Iran withdrawing from the NPT would spark a diplomatic crisis. If they were to develop nuclear weapons (which I believe they want to), I doubt they would purposefully make that fact clear by withdrawing. I've always assumed they're going for the same kind of policy of nuclear ambiguity that Israel does, by never admitting whether or not they actually have nuclear weapons.
