REALITY 78,981
Paramount is going to turn WB into Trump's mouthpiece. His influence is going to be all over WB/Paramount now since he and the Ellisons are pals. It probably means they're going to advocate for more films with "conservative" values—likely funded by Trump's allies and racist, pedo-defending podcasters & influencers. But hey, at least you get to keep your physical media and get to see the new Superman movie in theatres for two more weeks before it goes to streaming! I understand that Netflix getting WB would've caused a huge shift in the movie industry by focusing on streaming over theatres, but call me radical, I was willing to sacrifice that for the preservation of two giant studios not being at the behest of MAGA. EDIT - Forgot this also means that Trump effectively gets CNN! You're about to see MAGA propaganda and state-sponsored media all over the place... The next Democratic president needs to do a mass overhaul of the country to completely decimate MAGA influence, by ay means necessary. he/him/his 3

thisboyisamonster 1,133
This is a good thing. I do think the Ellison's are mostly courting MAGA politicians just to get the deal through but in reality their content strategy is likely to be more centrist as there is a real gap in that space. Everything is very polarised especially news in the US, IMO. I think Paramount also signed Jon M Chu and some other typically left serving talent but I know it's generally understood they are very conservative. But ultimately they will adapt content based on what the audience make up is and what people want to see. That's just good business. But still better than combining the biggest digital streaming platform with legacy blockbuster IP. I feel like much of this good IP would just get buried as under or as generic Netflix slop. And theatres would lose our big time. I feel like Paramount will try way harder to preserve the pre streaming model and give Disney etc. a good fight. Henny, they owned CBS, and see what it becomes now. The same will happen to CNN, which WB owns They could careless about the entertainment side of things (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ I'm gonna swim to the ocean floor (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

I don't know if that necessarily moves the needle. Everyone who cares about news impartiality will know where to put their attention and CNN would lose their core audience. Those who prefer conservative content will continue watching Fox and the world doesn't need another Fox. But it might need something more centrist. And they have an opportunity to fill that gap.

But the Ellisons are literally personal friends of Trump. Trump has an influence in this deal that he otherwise wouldn’t have had with Netflix. Like, now he’s got CNN in his corner. Netflix’s deal was worse for the movie industry. Paramount’s deal is worse in every other regard. Also, do you not think that Paramount wouldn’t cancel more “liberal” content? They literally made a blacklist of actors who are pro-Palestine… Edited Friday at 05:38 AM by REALITY 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔦𝔠'𝔰 𝔤𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔞 𝔟𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔪𝔢 𝔟𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥 1

It's not about being progressive, it's about using progressive ideas for sales. Netflix has been pink washing for many years, just to erase us later when it's not convenient to raise the flag anymore. All the progressive series has been canceled in one way of another, every series with LGBTQ+ theme or feminist theme, was canceled, at their peak for example. It's easy to point out all the faults of Paramount, but let's not pretend that Netflix is the less evil, they are as sh-t as Paramount.
