TheFrenchGuy 5,588
At 2:40 You can see how embarased she was. Gaga was very professional but it did seem a bit infantilizing towards Liza. Edited February 20 by TheFrenchGuy
Jill 31,812
Even though some people might have good intentions, the infantilization of older adults is a major issue, and I'm sorry to say that Gaga fell into this trend. We learn from these things, but older people shouldn't be treated as if they have no clue about anything, especially not in such a public setting Former First Lady of the United States. Now card-carrying member of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

HotLikeMexico 6,535
To be honest, I always thought the moment was very weird and hard to watch. Even I thought Gaga did too much when I saw it live. But I dunno, I feel like Gaga regardless always means well.

PornoDanceFight 1,989
Gaga infantilizing old people is just as shocking as Liza being a diva in this memoir excerpt i.e., a nonissue and let's not use stan lingo to invalidate Liza's feelings nor infer any ill will between them both. 1 1

TheFrenchGuy 5,588
For comparison's sake, here's Liza in a throne on Drag Race. She's A LOT more comfortable and quick. The Oscars made her look like she'd lost her autonomy, like they wheeled her out of a hospital for a clickbait moment. Genuinely disrespectful. Gaga's help unfortunately contributed to that, but it was clearly not her intention. I think she was just caring for Liza the same way she learned to care for Tony. After watching the Lady and the Legend, it made me think of the way she was around him at the end of his life. VTV 13,889
I bet Gagz was heartbroken. Gagz def meant well. This is unnecessary drama. Let her have it tho she earned it. I love both women. Hey Siri play Hey Girl 9 1

I read it more as Gaga being framed as the hero, which ended up making the whole thing about her intervention rather than celebrating Liza. Not that Gaga was fake, but the media ran with that clip and Liza became a footnote in her own moment. The narrative made Liza look helpless when she was actually just done dirty by the production. I think about the OSCARS and her Drag Race moment a lot, because they are so vastly different. I think filming in advance in a controlled setting and being able to edit compared to a live event that‘s timed and scripted to the second is where it went wrong. 4

For sure but she was absolutely done dirty on top of that. Liza would have been fine if they let her have her dignity.
River 127,350
“You see the public, they love you” always felt to me. Like I know she cared but it felt like Liza was losing her mind from old age there and didn’t understand where she was and gaga was there to hold her hand. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy 4 2
