Joni Mitchell and Gaga

So I came across something on line about Joni Mitchell actually liking Gaga and even giving her advice.  But I just wonder if it's true or a rumor.  I know that Joni Mitchell has a history of voicing negitive comments about other female artist, like Taylor Swift and Alanis Morissette.  So I assumed she wouldn't like Gaga and would have strong opinions about her like Taylor and Alanis.  It's just seems weird to me that she likes Gaga but not Taylor or Alanis whos music is closer to that of Joni's.  Does anyone know if Joni Mitchell did say those things about Gaga or is all just a rumor?

I could see her liking Gaga bc Gaga isn't pandering to her and is genuinely insanely talented a performer. Joni seems to bristle at what she sees as minimal songwriting and vocal talent, too prostrating, and too pop. Remember before she was an icon she was a hippie folk girl. Veteran rock people seem to really love Gaga as a performer even if the songs aren't their particular bag. Idk if it's true she does but i could see her liking Gaga.

I do think it's kinda sad that Joni Mitchell is a main influence to Taylor Swift and she kinda dissed her.

Mitchell’s read was accurate, tbh.

I Agree, Joni is amazingly talented and I feel Like Taylor is talented but not like Joni.  But that's just me.

Similar to Gaga and Madonna, or even Grace Jones for that matter.

If I recall correctly, the only time Joni said anything about Taylor was when she was asked about the idea of casting Taylor in her biopic? And she said something like "i never listened to her albums but good luck?". That's hardly shade, sounds more like she didn't know much about her.

She said a little more than that as I understand.

Tbh if I was as famously good a writer as she was I’d be mad af that people compared me to even Taylor’s best writing. I’m not even a massive hater, but Joni is an incredible writer lyrically and melodically and Taylor is mostly a fine one with a couple of good moments here and there. Then add onto that that they want someone who is not a great singer to portray you? I get why she’s not pay it much attention. She’s an incredible folk singer

She said “if she’s going to sing, good luck” :laughga: it was a straight up read
