I wish Tiktok, shorts, reels etc would all **** off

Everyone is obscenely addicted whenever you look, people can't even walk down a busy street without mindlessly gawking at pointless videos on their phone. People will go to coffee shops and instead of enjoying each others company they'll be watching tiktoks... And usually out loud...

The main thing I hate, and it has become my #1 pet peeve, is when they do it without headphones. And have speakerphone calls in public places. If everyone wore headphones it wouldn't bother me nearly as much but so many people do it that it's guaranteed to happen whenever I leave the house. I feel forced to wear headphones wherever I go to drown it out, I can't just enjoy whatevers going on around me anymore

Nobody has an attention span anymore. My own is ****ed.

So yeah bye bye doomyscroll hope you die soon

oh yeah you queefed all over that

This is honestly necessary in this day and age. Just last week I realized how much doomscrolling was wasting my time, and I can't believe it's been as easy as installing a time-limiting app for me to stop. It's not that I was addicted to it because I would have uninstalled that reminder app to keep scrolling. Turns out I would just completely go passive and scroll, and all I needed was a prompt to stop.

I used to think TV-shows and video games were an issue I was struggling with but they really aren't. When I have nothing to do in particular the amount of HOURS I end up wasting on scrolling through absolute garbage is insane. :saladga: And I'm not having fun either, it's just hijacking my brain and I get into some weird f*cking paralysis state where I can't stop scrolling even though I hate that I'm doing it.

On the odd occasion I watch reels in bed I just angrily skip through them all thinking what the hell is this pointless crap and why is society so obsessed with it :oohrightthereyeah:

Ngl I will never understand people justifying this level of paternalism lol

Unfortunately most people in the world need it. People are addicted to scrolling, and the government has always regulated things people have high addiction tendencies for. The people will not self-regulate when given the option.

same. I get that social media can be addictive to some people (not all, but some!), but I don't think a government regulation like this about how much content folks are allowed to see is the answer, and I'm surprised how many people would be in support of this

like, to make a very simplistic comparison, there's food addiction, is there going to be regulation on how much a person is allowed to eat?

this just sounds like a government overreach bandaid over a bigger problem

IMO, the food analogy is right on the money. The answer should be quality control (and eliminating addictive components) as opposed to quantity control.

You know what’s very eye opening too?

All those hours mindlessly scrolling on Tik Tok and you can’t remember most of it.

It’s just a pure waste of time.

A movie, TV show, even tweets stay with you after seeing them.

These short content videos do not.

I’ve tried installing these apps and I always delete them like after a day, I hate to admit it but I’m so addicted to my phone :bradley:

What sort of things do you occupy your time with once you get the prompt to stop scrolling?

Very much this, the other day I had to out loud say at the top of my voice “HELLO???” to a stranger who was about to walk into me and my friends in the street because they refused to look up from their phone. And I’ve noticed a lot when I’m stuck on busy public transport there’s always at least 5 people playing videos on their phones aloud and it’s irritating af.

I think a lot of people end up doing it because it’s like reading a book but except more visual; you pass time much faster. Plus people end up in holes about information and other people’s lives because as a species we humans are notoriously nosey and MUST know everything. Hence why reality tv became such a big thing, and influencer culture

Happens daily, one for these days I'm going to let them walk into me and then unleash the fury

MAYBE IF YOUR FACE WASN'T GLUED TO YOUR PHONE YOU'D HAVE SEEN ME!!!!!!!!  :oohrightthereyeah:
