Transition from TF to TFM

It’s funny, because it was really my first time experiencing good branding. Right away her visuals really punched in a way that we all felt it. But it is funny, because I find myself looking back at that thinking how ridiculous it is that we all were so enamored with her and her looks - because I have to admit that now when I look back at those looks, images and performances, they all look so corny compared to what she’s capable of and delivers now. She’s polished that image so much - especially in the MAYHEM era. I think her looks are truly at her best so far - consistent, polished and better curated. But the girl made do on a budget at first - and at the time, we were all so much less exposed to that level of performance art that it was awe inspiring, even though they were cheap leotards and some classic pleasers. And as much as I can look back on that time and admire her, I’m so glad that’s not what she’s doing or who she is now. She’s matured along side me, and I think that’s really special.

TFM had been announced for like 6 months or more when it came out 

I personally never thought the transformation was particularly big, I did not even notice it as she would rock a new look every single day

I would say around this time, she started to get rid of her bangs, it was a big change cuz she used to always have it down and very long. She also got her tfm arm tattoo already. I love how she transformed so much since day 1, but these pictures looks lowkey mayhem ball with the curly long hair.

Gurl… be so for real. There is no one else wearing a wicker basket on their head at the Grammys. I’m just saying in the Fame era it would have been a literal spray painted wicker basket, and now it’s archival McQueen. She’s still doing performance art - it’s just so much more tasteful.

It was around Paparazzi where she introduced that Fame monster element to her looks and its just gradually shifted and made sense.

She’s wearing art pieces, not doing performance art 

Also, The Fame art pieces were created by herself, and that makes them more creative and authentic

Disagree, tbh. Even if it’s not as overt, the way that Gaga’s image is so meta and curated, her whole career and transformation post-ARTPOP still qualifies as performance art, imo. Not to mention that TAOPC feels like the streamlining, synthesis, and elevation of her image, iconography, and narrative feels like a form of performance art. Hell, even the story of ASIB and the way that it overlaps with her own narrative and the way in which she staged the press tour as a theatrical version of a classic Hollywood style press tour is basically performance art.

Yeah, but what I really meant is she doesn’t do performance art for the performance art anymore.

Now she uses it for concerts, music videos and company but back in the day, she would walk down the street and pull performance art with no context, no other artistic discipline

Truly all we needed to complete the “performance” was for her and Bradley to have an affair together and end up as a couple ala Brangelina style
