This could very well be an accident, that's true, but don't make silly excuses like "she felt bad for her" or "she's investigating her" or "Melania bought followers so Gaga followed her against her will" (this last one is not possible because of the way websites work). The reality of the matter is that, as I've said several times, Gaga occupies a select spot within a group of influential people. The higher you go up the pyramid of wealth and influence, the more people in common you're going to find. It's already well-known that Gaga's fiancé, for example, has ties to Peter Thiel, a famous Trump associate, so the Gaga-Melania connection isn't that far-fetched. No matter how unimaginable it seems now, take my word for it: when you are rich, solidarity among the wealthy becomes incredibly strong and almost fundamentally necessary, much more so than solidarity among the poor, who are always divided. This is the reality everywhere, and it's the reason why, even though many rich people seem to be "at odds" or hold vastly different ideologies, they share one thing: they are capitalists. As capitalists, they don't fundamentally disagree. They only differ on certain parts in a way that isn't truly polarizing between them. This is what makes it possible for Gaga, for example, to support the LGBTQ movement while also associating with Trump allies. This isn't a slight against her specifically.
