rinasawachanta 3,290
HOW and IN WHAT WAY (and more importantly, why???) is she going to revisit a sound that has been dead since even before the release of the “first volume” (the only one that exists lol) of ARTOP?
Ziggy 12,865
Based on the descriptions of requiem, I think born this way is closer given she dabbled in that general vibe direction with songs like electric chapel since you also mean spiritual successor not just sound…I still don’t think so and it’ll lean more towards born this way very specifically in the sense that that was the era when she most owned and felt confident in her sound and aesthetic to the point where she tried new things. To that end I feel like she’s in that place rn too Edited February 10 by Ziggy

I literally said in the OP I wasn’t referring to the sound or it being a sequel to the album but the energy that was intended for the album and also using one of the producers who (I think) did the best production in the album that could translate to the sound she has now

I know what you're getting at, she's gonna crank it to 11 with the hard industrial edm rock pop opera. Imagine her not giving a **** and making something really 'out there' with her current discipline and better than ever skills. Thank you, I think people sometimes read thread titles on here and just comment

To that end I feel like she’s in that place rn too For me Mayhem feels more like the successor to BTW in aesthetics, sound, visuals and energy from her and the music. They all fit into the album quite well I think, like if you throw them into a playlist together. I love that Gaga never repeats things so I can totally see the next album not remotely being “rocky” as well as a possibility. I mean if she’s worked with Moroder and Abel there’s a possibility she could lean more into French House/Disco sounds.

I just want her to enjoy herself and do something new She learned never to discuss her next albums/ideas with us ever again. Perhaps that's wise, but it's less fun. Speculating about ARTPOP makes up so much of that era's nostalgia for me. [Side note: Remember when this fanbase was the only one discussing eras? Gaga and her fans invented the concept of eras.] "The truth is..." --L. Gaga, 1986-present

And with an album era so fraught, we'll never not have strong feelings. Obviously, the trauma is still very real. I'm glad you posted this. Fans have ARTPOP on a pedestal when it's an album that was changed a lot by her manager to the point she and Paul almost quit making music. Mayhem on the other hand comes from the best place and another creative peak with a great team. THIS WTF is MDNA
KindnessPunk 2,167
Im just excited at the thought of her making more music so soon. I wonder whats more likely: a follow up to Mayhem, and entirely new album, an ep, or no new music for a while. She seems so passionate lately about everything I really think we might get something new soon-ish

BeFree 210
She is at a creative peak right now so I believe the next album will be classic Gaga. She has nothing to prove, nor is she trying to be anything other than a musician and artist who loves her craft. It’s clear that she enjoys merging genres and that she is honing in on her skills and knowledge of music to create authentic records that truly stem from her. She will be a lead producer again and borrow from her extensive knowledge of music for inspiration. I don’t believe the sound will be experimental for experimental’s sake; she is very intentional and in control now.
